Given the security of the electoral process, and that fact that it is the basis of our stable, functioningdemocracy, it is absolutely insane that there isn't a federal agency tasked with securing the validity of our process. None of the 50 flavors of incompetence should be tolerated.

Centralize the process and the systems, make it auditable.

I think there should be standards, not centralization. Audit-able paper trails should exist in all voting systems. The fact that Georgia doesn't have that makes them a choice target.

It's not really about the Russians but about anybody who can gain access to alter the totals. It could be an entirely domestic partisan endeavor.

At the 2017 Def Con computer security conference, perhaps the biggest gathering of hackers in the world, organizers challenged attendees to hack into a variety of 30 different voting machines used by election officials around the country.

Within 24 hours they hacked every one.

A 16-year-old hacker broke into as ExpressPoll voting machine used by Georgia in 45 minutes. Another cyberhacker showed how he could change votes in the WINvote machine used in Virginia, Pennsylvania and Mississippi, with only a computer, a mouse and a Microsoft Word document, as long as he had the password. But the hacker soon discovered that WINvote machines all had the same password.

The password, which could not be changed, was (you might want to take a deep breath) “abcde.”

The simple fact that purely electronic systems can likely be hacked means that they shouldn't be used, both to protect the integrity of the vote and also to protect people's faith in the accuracy of results.

A person doesn't have to be very bright to see that all this voter fraud bullshit is highly corrosive of people's faith in the voting system. Our President promulgating it is beyond shameful, of course, but his adherents love him just the same.

There is a lot of things they don't want to dig up. Not only the electronic ballots are questionable. Even the electoral college and paper ballots might have been social engineered.

Yep, nothing is wrong everything is fine. We are making sure nothing that could happen will happen, etc.

On the reverse side, I had a thought yesterday. Let’s say some Russian hacks one or two voting machines somewhere, anywhere. Casts or changes a handful of votes to D. Then months later the process and files are “leaked”......
Then begin the chants that the Democratic House or Senate or any Democrat for that matter is not a legitimate elected person. We all know Trump would beat that drum 24/7.
