Which is still less than half the US population. I just have a hard time believing LTE will be ready for a 4G only device completely sans CMDA anytime soon, I'm thinking 2012 at the earliest It will be like doing back to the digital conversion where you had good coverage in town but in between you were screwed. Consumers are not going to stand for that today and Verizon won't do it and damage their reputation of the best network. I think we will have CDMA around for many years yet and the will have LTE tacked on like Sprint is doing with WiMax.

I'm puzzled as to why you think a Verizon LTE device would be lacking CDMA? Of course it would have to do both LTE and CDMA. As you said, it's going to be years before LTE is fully deployed, just as it was with 3G.

It will be LTE for data and CDMA for voice, this is well documented.

As long as it is CDMA for voice there won't be an iphone for Verizon/Sprint, unless someone comes out with a chip that can do GSM and CDMA.

if LTE is not going to roll out then there will be no new iPhone this year that will be able to utilize LTE?

LTE for Verizon will rollout this year, but At&t won't. Word on the
new iPhone should be soon, if they plan to release it by summer.

I would be willing to add your wager to the list :D

My Apple stock is up nicely today...

Meh, I think it's stupid to try to predict Apple's moves too precisely. Sure, we can be pretty certain that Verizon will get the iPhone, but we have no idea when. Just like it was pretty clear that apple was putting out a tablet, but most of the rumors about its features were pure bullshit.

Also, you better sell that stock before Mr. Jobs-o kicks the bucket... :p

I'd jump on a Verizon iPhone in a heartbeat, but I'm concerned about the 3G - according to the commercials, you can't call and surf at the same time. That'd be annoying when looking stuff up while on the phone, which is something I did ALL the time when I was on AT&T with my iPhone.

you can surf 3G on AT&T?
wait, you can make calls on AT&T???

BGR's title is blatently misleading. The WSJ did not say Verizon was definitely getting an iPhone. This is the actual article they (and all the other tech blogs) linked to:

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB100...42601774892.html?mod=WSJ_hpp_MIDDLETopStories

They said a company is supposedly slated to begin producing a CDMA iPhone in September. They made the jump to assuming this meant Verizon was likely getting an iPhone - and yea, Verizon makes more sense than Sprint - but there's also no confirmation on the matter.

This is no less of a baseless rumor than the past baseless rumors. I'm not saying Verizon won't get an iPhone - just that this report (and BGR's false advertising) is nothing new.

IMHO
I would go google stock. They have a lot cool products coming down the pipeline. I really do think the Ipad is going to be a bust. I am not a MAC hater at all but I really don't see the purpose of that product. If anything I would buy an undervalued sprint stock. They can't do any worse and the jump to 4g could give them a boost in earnings.

The iPad is pretty polarizing, heres the thing though, if Apple got it right, and Apple does occasionally get things right, they've got another runaway success on their hands.

Google generates money through search, the rest is window dressing, and Google fucking around frankly.

I agree with you on that Apple does seem to get things right. The ipod and Iphone are genius.
I just don't see the ipad being polarizing. The ipad looks like a giat itouch. I have never used an ipad so I know it is alittle unfair to make that statement.

I look at the microsoft prototype and it looks much more usable, and polarizing. But Microsoft has a tendacy to get things wrong. Although I am interested in the ZuneHD, from the forums it seems like a great product with horrible marketing.

Windows 7 imho has been an amazing upgrade so maybe windows 7 mobile will get microsoft back into the game. Too bad I have sero or I would give it a try.
