To all those having difficulty getting response to email: Contact him via ICQ. His # is on the Contact page, and so far I've recieved an immediate (<5 min) response to every question but 2, and both those times my ICQ client went into away mode automatically for a few mintues after I asked the question. I've asked about 15 questions and gotten good responses in all of them except the 2. Asking those 2 questions later (during which time my icq client didnt auto-away) got the same fast response as the others.

Summary: If he doesn't reply to emails quickly, try asking via ICQ.

Then try IRC.DIXIESYS.COM or post a message in the forums.dixiesys.com

I emailed Gary with newbie hosting questions prior to the sale and received responses within 30 minutes. I signed up on the 15th when the sale started. Received confirmation of the credit card charge. A few hours passed without an email "Welcome" confirmation. I posted a question on the forums asking when we would get our DNS info etc. I also emailed Gary. The forums post came back almost immediately with a 12 to 24 hour response time because of the sale. Normally response is within 12 hours. I received my Welcome letter within 24 hours and a response from Gary explaining the delay. I can't think of better service.

sleeper5555. I don't know whats happening for you but Dixiesys/Gary will come through I'm sure. I'm really impressed with them.

Is there a newbie step by step link somewhere? I just got the Dixie $20 a year plan and a .us from godaddy. How do I put the 2 together? Where do I get the DNS to record at godaddy? Where do I upload my pages? Thanks for any help.

Princeman, once Dixiesys has setup your account, they should send you an "All Set!" email which should have all of that information.

I just changed my DNS at godaddy.com, do anyone know how long it will take to propagate, so that I can start using my web host account.

Average is 24 - 48 hours. It can take up to 72 hours to fully propogate.

If I were you, I would have moved on to another hosting company. Dixiesys obviously doesn't care about providing you the service you deserved, (or may be not deserved). Why wait? There are a lot of good hosts out there. Just because everyone has a good experience doesn't mean you will have one. Remember CW? When everyone swore by how good it was, CEO has already started his scam. Most of these hosts have not been around long enough, in my opinion, to provide a good track record. Dixiesys is around for a year, has 800 customer and is adding about 300 per month, so that means they are REALLY expanding during the last 2 month, and most people are happy with them for the 2 month period, and you get the picture. I currently has 3 hosts, the best one answered most email within 10-15 minutes, and at late nights, took at most 3 hours. The worst one answered ALL email within 8 hours. So if Dixiesys is my host and I get service like yours, it probably will be one of the worst in my books.

whoa sinman cool off a little here like i said before i am not at all saying they are like cyberwings, my question for gary is not very important immediately but i do need an answer by weeks end, As of right now on a scale of 1-10 1 being cyberwings and 10 being eicomm.net (they host my other sites and Anandtech also) i would say they are a 7 on service as it has not gone down in a few days, but as far as support they are bad maybe a 3? i do wish i would get a reply soon (TT has now been in for over 12 hours and still is marked hold) I will bail soon but i am hanging on here for the moment!

I have been following this thread, and this is a good deal on paper, but it seems there are a few too many problems with this host for me to bite.
They claim "Our uptime approaches 100%", yet their own site shows this figure is closer to 94%.

I think I will just pay $60/yr and go with eicomm.

Did you say eicomm.net hosts Anandtech? I don't know the best way to figure stuff like that out but tracert points to stargate. Either way, I'd rather track down Shawn in Maine and sign my house over to him than to sign up with whoever hosts Anandtech.

yes anand uses eicomm just read anyone of their servr upgrade articles they always say thanks to ei on the last page. the only down side to them is they never used to charge setup fee's and now they do (some are pretty step too) other than that they are awsome!

klah - where did you find the actual uptime?

worms - what is wrong with anandtech?

If I use my own domain, what happen to my mail if the web hosting company goes out of business? Can I do any kind of set-up, so that I can still receive my e-mail.

If you register through Godaddy, you can add privacy to the domain name by paying $6 more a year.
