Sorry, figured it out:

Outlook Express - PC
Versions 4.x and later

Select Tools on the Outlook Express menu and open the Accounts item
Click the Mail tab to show all your email accounts
Highlight the SFF Net email account, and click the Properties button to show the settings
Click the Servers tab, which shows you all the mail server settings
In the Outgoing Mail Server section, make sure the My server requires authentication checkbox is checked
Click the Settings... button next to it and be sure the Use the same settings as my incoming mail server option is selected.

I'm a bit torn about this deal. It looks good, but I'm not reassured by the postings of dixiesys's proprietor on webhostingtalk.com -- busily basking in the admiration of other startup webhost wannabees, talking about how he loves the business and how it allows him so much time to enjoy himself, and how he's satisfied with a net annual income of $25K from the operation -- which, to my mind, makes me think that he is both undercapitalized and without sufficient reward to make absolutely certain he sticks with the business if something better comes along.

You've gotta be careful how you read that.

What I said (at least my intent) was that I only NEEDED to make about 25K per year to "live" and to get by.

My income from Dixiesys is a LOT more than 25K, let's just say I'm probably gonna owe about that in taxes for this year. The chances of someone around here offering me a "job" that pays 1/2 of what the business made me this year is 0 and none.

I've been with them since the last 2 for 1 deal in July. There's been a couple little outage hiccups but I have recommended my friends to get in on this.

I just have 2 requests for Gary: 1) the outgoing mail server is slow. Can that be sped up (server 12) and 2) can you run the 2 for 1 sale next july so I can renew at that rate?? ;) Or do we automatically get to renew on the deal we signed up for? :D:D:D

THanks and get in on the deal!

OK I can overlook email from time to time but this is getting ridiculous if you've tried that hard. You must be triggering a filter somehow is my only guess or you've just about got the worst luck :)

What is your ticket # and I'll see what's up.

klah - where did you find the actual uptime?
http://stats.dixiesys.com/stats.php.

Use the drop-down menu to look at uptime for each server.

Interesting to note that many of the days show MORE than 100% uptime :Q

Of course, I just went for the $40 account so you can't say I'm against DixieSys :D

This little utility is horribly "not accurate". As you can see. It's just something we were trying to work on as we had time that managed get used while we were still working on it :)

Gotta love those 130% uptime days.

Thanks to Dixiesys for his prompt response on the forum.
My apologies if I gave the impression I was trying to rag on him -- I'm just being cautious, and in all friendliness, I would advise him to be careful of what he says in public forums! As anyone who's had any dealings in public life before knows, it's very easy to have one's words misinterpreted unless one is super careful.
That said, I also have to note that I sent one email inquiry about the services offered, a message that could have been answered with a simple yes or no (and I confess I got the answer myself once I found the dixiesys message board), but that I am still waiting for a response after nearly a week.
Again, nothing to convict on, but enough to make one concerned.

I am a Dixiesys customer for more than a year. Overall, the service has been good. I didn't have to many problems with the hosting. However, lately the server I am on has been very slow. Even the email server is slow. I believe this is a temporary issue and they will fix it. I do wish they would make more annoucements when they move servers or when major changes occur. (A mailing list would be great) I often find out they are moving AFTER they moved and my site is down. :( Also, they upgraded PHP to 4.12 and I didn't know. My scripts were broken because they were coded for the old version, and I couldn't find out why until I finally saw they upgraded to 4.12. That wasn't to big of a problem, but I sure wish they annoucement more than just one particular forum.

I would not recommend dixiesys for a business site. The uptime is definitely not 99.7% of which a business requires. I noticed that sometimes, they will reset their servers. (Everything will go down, their site, forum, everything) Then it will go back up again like 5 minutes later. Thankfully, this happens very seldomly. If you are looking for a personal site, then you cannot go wrong. I am running a ite for a gaming community. Overall, I am still satisfied. They answer problems fairly quickly and the service is good. In fact, I may plan on adding another site soon. ;)

Here's the response that Gary provided over in their forums:
For resellers we're just assuming they want double the stuff and aren't opening up two accounts, say, one for me one for my friend, last time we had no one open two normal accounts and everyone chose double the goodies on Resellers so we just kinda assumed reseller signups were gonna be double stuffed If someone actually wants to make 2 normal accounts and say, give one to a friend or something that's fine and nothing an email to sales@dixiesys.com won't fix

Wow this thread has grown since the last time I checked.

I signed up on the 15th for the 2 for 1 and am so far fairly happy with the service. There were two reboots in the middle of the day which had me worried but other than that I haven't experienced any major problems. My site is an online forum so not business related, but certainly uptime is good.

LAST DAY! - Sale ends tonight at 23:59 PST. If you don't order before then, you've waited too long.

According to Gary I was the first one to sign up that night for the 2 for 1. Over the next 15 days I was so pleased I had to jump on the 2 for 1 reseller plan before it ended on the 31st.
