Web hosting company with back to back sales just give me that sense of déjà vu.

1. Register Domain
2. During or even after registration, point your namservers to the one's dixiesys has assigned you (example: ns7.genericdns.com & ns8.genericdns.com).
3. After propogation (it takes up to 72 hours for your new domain name to be on the internet), upload files.
4. Enjoy new website.

Newbie question- If I get the $19.99 a year site, to put up a few family pics, do I also have to also pay for a domain registration for $15? No clue. Thanks

Unless you already own a domain name, yes you'll need to purchase a domain name.

However, you dont need to purchase the domain from dixiesys for $15 -

I would suggest purchasing a domain name at a cheaper price from:

GoDaddy - $8.95 per year (domain name only)
NameCheap - $8.88 per year (domain name only)

Like i said above, after you purchase your domain name, you will point your nameservers to whatever dixiesys assigns you. Don't worry about not knowing what a 'nameserver' is - both godaddy and namecheap will help you in pointing it to the correct namserver.

Anyone want to provide URLs to their dixiesys.com hosted sites?

Also, I noticed that dixiesys's hosting plan says "Frontpage 2002" and their reseller plans say, "Frontpage Extensions"...what is the difference?

Thanks.

Excellent post as always NetworkDad, thanks!

alm99 - If you don't already own a domain (www.whateveryouwant.com), I would highly recommend signing up with NameCheap.com it's cheap and you get a lot of features (and few hidden fees).

Thanks.

Same thing...just worded differently. All new servers have Frontpage 2002 extensions on them, enabling you to support microsoft FrontPage.

While it is only a one page site the link in my sig (below) is a dixiesys hosted site. and their speed is great, it is the service that is lacking, and until this last week reliability was bad but now it seems they fixed this!

I put one up last night. It isn't fully available yet, but I was able to access it at home (still can't at work). If you can't get it now, it should be available in the next 24 hrs.

www.potguides.com - It's an old site that my buddy is re-doing. I threw up last years version, though, to hold the place and see how performance was.

Do we need to know which Domain names we want to have hosted at the time we sign up?

I would like to make sure that I get in on the deal but I don't know which URLs I want to have hosted yet...

Thanks

Not for reseller accounts. For regular accounts, i *think* so.

No but why would you have to? Pay for one hosting account and get two, hence "2 for 1".

You pay for one account and you get an extra (or 2nd) account for FREE.
