I never said bulking meant you get fat. I was talking about "quick bulking" and of course it correlates with fat or you would never need to cut. Is it really any surprise that a quick bulk requires a cut cycle after it? You are basically increasing your calories (in some cases by a shit ton) and doing roughly the same amount of work. Alllll those unspent calories go somewhere and they don't all magically turn into muscle no matter how badly you want them to.

And last I checked, the best way to avoid stretch marks was to avoid sudden weight gain and make gradual changes.

That's not to say 12lbs in 12weeks is ridiculous either but some of the other numbers thrown around this thread have been a bit ridiculous. I still believe he should focus on his lifts instead of hyper-analyzing his weight numbers and trying to make judgment calls from them.

I think 12 lbs. in 12 weeks of lean body mass is easily doable, I will say that. I'm not sure what the OP is doing exactly to fuck this up so bad....

During the last few weeks he gained ~1-2 lbs per week... besides the starting problems where he lost a few lbs he is on a good way now.

IF it continues this way.....

Yep, if it continues. A quart of milk weighs 2.15lb and I could easily down that and then jump on a scale. 😛

I think he'd better change something up or I'm going to beat him to 170, and I started 20lb lighter than he did...

Not to mention the five week head start he had as well.

I'm trying to get out of the place where I'm staying the past 2 weeks, but that's been screwing up my eating. I'll probably just stay at home, or bring a lunchbox when I go somewhere.
 
This thread is super fail. I wouldn't even count a pound of weight gain as anything at all really. I shit 1 pound logs every day.
 
You could try growing some balls and eating like a man, you look like a starving African at the moment, but that could be your goal...who knows.

because you body changes weight throughout the day.

I know this because i recently lost 50 lbs if you saw my thread. I always weighed myself right when i wake up (always less heavy in the morning, heavier at night before bed)

With the unchanging weight readings after many weeks, my bet is that it's not the time of the day that's problematic.
 
Start doing some heavy pull overs to expand your rib cage for one thing if you are wanting to get bigger. Your rib cage is flat.

His rib cage size is not a modifiable aspect. The rib cage and its size are dictated by bone anatomy. You don't get to expand it permanently. The only way you change its size is by breathing, which is a temporary change. Pull overs aren't going to do anything other lifts wouldn't do. I guarantee if he put 40lbs of muscle on, his rib cage wouldn't look "flat."

6'1 164lbs is a normal person? are you kidding me?

He's pretty much dead center in the normal range of BMI so yea I'm serious. Love how people that are over weight are convinced it must be all muscle when 9 times out of 10 they're actually at lot fatter then they realize.

Hahah, nice generalization. He's also 20 pounds of fat away from being a lardass. I'm 6', weigh 165. Are you telling me I'm underweight? For doing what, exactly?

Maybe a 6' tall athlete at 190 lbs. would be right (although a lot of 6' professional athletes are under that weight), but for the typical 6' tall man, 175 lbs. would be a better weight than 195 lbs. Can you honestly look at thepd7's pics in this thread and say that he's the perfect weight and shouldn't lose any?

And I'm not talking about building muscle mass, I'm just talking about weight since that's all you talked about in your post. If someone wants to run cross country, for example, they can still be in good shape at 6' 160 lbs.

Edit: OP, do you not have access to food where you've been staying? If so, then take-out or bringing some food would be a good option. You can bring things like nuts or dried fruit (and probably lots of other things) with you that wouldn't require refrigeration. Since you're trying to gain weight, you don't have to be quite as careful for avoiding fast food and things like that, especially if you're not able to get enough calories otherwise.

Another thought I just had was to take a thermos of whole milk. I have a 35-oz. thermos that would hold about 650 calories of whole milk and keep it cold for about 8 hours.
