It's extremely important for some people. And I mean deal-breaker important, particularly for those with phase-cooling units with controller cards. The quick turnoff and reboot can damage a phase unit badly. It is also hard on hard drives and WC gear, as Phile said.

Hello, I just purchased a Core 2 X6800 and the ASUS P5W-DH Deluxe MB. I'm curious as to what would be the best RAM for me to select to overclock with using this combo. I'm hoping for 4 GB, probably DDR2? Thanks in advance for any advice. Edit: yes I meant X6800 :)

Don't want to step on any very firmly planted toes, but I got the XFX 7800GTX and my friend got the EVGA. All other factors aside (and there are other factors), my card ran [much] cooler at idle and got better benchmarks by about 50 points on 3dMark05 at stock speeds. Just letting you guys...
