changed my mind about the G5

Well after a week of trying to get used to the G5, I've given up. I thought it would be similar enough to the mx510 which it replaced, but it's not. The textured surface is actually fairly useless, it is harder to get a consistent grip on then the 510's smooth rubber.

My main complains are the buggy software and the weird sensitivity. I just can't get used to the sensitivity settings. In games, it is either way too fast or way too slow, with apparantly no point that is just right in between. I've tried every increment between 400 and 1000 and there is no point that feels natural. I end up having to control the mouse with my fingers in an uncomfortable claw position in order to be able to accurately aim at stuff.

So, it's back to the 510 for me. Anyone wanna buy my G5? :)

I too purchased the G5 right when it came out. Unfortunately, after using it for a week, my right hand started to exhibit RSI - like symptoms. After returning to my MS Intellimouse Explorer 4.0, the symptoms vanished.

The curvature of the mouse seems shallower then the intellimouse, and I noticed that rather than fitting like a glove, the mouse encouraged my right hand to move it more with the fingers than then hand, wrist and forearm.

It seems like quite a fine mouse, but I would most definitely recommned that users try these out for themselves before purchasing. Don't just go on internet reviews.

yup, exact same problem with me. I have a mx510 though which is the exact same shape. I think the problem is due to the textured surface. You can't grip it with the side of your finger, so you end up clawing the mouse. Add to that the hypersensitivity and you are just asking for trouble.

I too was disappointed in my G5. It is now on it's way back for a refund.

The textured surface caused me problems as well. The wheel could use improvement as well; it proves difficult to click.

The driver is buggy indeed. I'm sure this can be improved in time, but that doesn't make up for the physical defects of the mouse.

My MX510 is treating me well now that I'm back using it. It's plenty accurate, and is actually much more pleasant to grip.

I've never really been a big fan of logitech peripherals. Drivers were always a killer for me. I've been using a logitech elite keyboard for the past 2 years (dunno why I went with it, I haven't liked logitech since 1995 with my first trackball mouse) unable to use the drivers (they haven't been updated in the last two years) because they're heavily bloated and just interfere with too many applications. Lest we forget that oh so handy F-lock function... For laser mice. The Copperhead won me over this round. I've been using a intellimouse 1.1a's since thet were first released, demoing the logitech, they just didn't feel right to me, they force the hand at an odd angle. The copperhead doesn't have an ergonomic shape so much but feels like a precision instrument to me, almost like a surgeons scalpal. I'm still getting used to the copperhead but even being uncomfortable with it and not used to the responciveness of 2000dpi and 1000mhz polling in games (the feeling that it's unnatural compared to my intellimouse) I'm still getting a better kill death ratio in online FPS so something's working. I guess once I get used to it I will be even better.

I like mine, but I jumped from a 310 so it's really new to me. Wish I waited for the price to drop, but it doesn't really matter.

To each his own, but just to balance out the hate in the room, I absolutely love mine. I am very pleased with it responsivness and accuracy. It isn't too sensitive if you are using a nice high res screen, mine is 1680 x 1050, and frankly my MX1000 wasn't up to speed on a screen that large without having to use interpolation which lower accuracy. As for the textured grips I thought that was great, I don't have a problem at all holding the mouse, just like I have every other mouse, using my wrist to move it not my fingers. *shrugs* As I said to each his own, but I haven't had any problems with the mouse, or the G15 Keyboard for that matter, but then again I haven't had much time to play with the keyboard yet, but the macros are EXTREMLY useful if you play any kind of MMO.

I'm having no issues with my G5. I also upgraded from the MX-510.

The textured surface, at first, was a detraction for me, but I adjusted to it with no problem and it makes no difference to me. The hardest thing to get used too was the resolution, but, you can set it to the same DPI as the MX510 and step up to higher resolutions as you get used to them. I've already noticed an improvement in BF2 for me.

Just picked up the G5. I am loving it so far. I also like the weight adjustment idea.

Accuracy is better than my previous MX518, I like the texture better, overall handgrip feels very similar, I'm glad they removed the 2nd forward button on the inside, and I am very thankful for the little display that lets me know what mode I am in. I absolutely hated how I was not able to figure out what dpi I was at.
Also, maybe biggest thing for me, the pads are much smoother and glide with ease compared to the 518. I think it is a huge difference for the better. This allows the weight adjustment to actually matter.

I'll give it some time before making final conclusions, but I will say so far this is a great mouse and I'm happy I upgraded.

P.S. the mouse also looks better than that odd faux-dented silverish color.

G5 is okay, but they screwed it up by only having a back button, no forward button :|

So i won't be buying it, though i do use it at work.
