If you look at the executables for the Plextor firmware (PXfirm.exe), they look to be the same file across the entire drive line. Nowhere in the executables (as far as I can see) does the drive identifier string come in. The identifier seems to solely be supplied by the .ini file for that update. I also checked the .rom file included with the TDK update, and the .bin file with the Plextor (both versions 1.07) and they're identical....so no firmware differences either.

If someone who has the drive already installed could please check if just changing the Inquiry string in the .ini file allows the Iomega to be updated, I think a lot of people would be helped out.

Thanks

Shifting from firmware to the sale of the drive really quick...

This isn't regional right??? Someone in this thread said that someone at Compusa told him/her that the sale might be regional, and I already opened my drive... Please oh lordie lord don't make me pay 300 smackeroos for this.

San Jose, CA guys.. anyone confirm?

I bought from Santa Clara, and I'm pretty sure the sale is going on here too. But, San Jose is pretty far..... ;-)

I am right here in the comp usa store using thier roadrunner broadband computer

1)picked up 1 unit of iomega 12 X cdrw

2) asked for copy of tomorrow's flyer (front page $150 instant saving on the CDRW)

3) asked manager, yes i can come back tomorrow for $150 instant savings.

4) cdrw limit 1 per person. So if i want to i can come back tomorrow and get more :) my local store has only 25 - ( 1 in my hand now) = 24 units left.

I live in San Jose, CA. I am pretty sure there will be a sale tomorrow. I have to stop by bestbuy first to do the pricematch.

tran1981.....I think the Bestbuy pricematch requires it to be in stock does it not? I know the Santa Clara store is out...my friends got the last one. Hopefully you know one that will have it tomorrow morning, else you might be out of luck.

Limit 1 per person tomorrow? What happens if I buy 2 today? Will they only give me the difference on 1? Or both? Maybe once the sale starts we can only buy 1, but before then buy more and get the difference for all of them tomorrow? Sorry if I confused anyone.

Your friends??? Bah... I probably know them! I had to do all the work, running from clerk to clerk, talking to this manager and that manager, barefoot and in 3 feet of snow, mind you. I finally find the hidden box, just so that I can take 1, and this couple takes the rest of the box... it wasn't that bad though, there were only 2 left in the box, but that's besides the point. They took the box. ;)

Santa Clara, CA.. i was only asking about San Jose because I am going to the San Jose location to get pm'ed. I had to drive to the Santa Clara compusa to buy the darn thing.

I'm still surprised people continue to buy these from Compusa and not Bestbuy. Hasn't Bestbuy B&M infiltrated your particular area yet? Avoid the Compusa early morning rush and get an extra 10% off to boot! I cleaned out (actually wasn't a total ass, and left 3 behind) a Bestbuy store last night and had like 4 Bestbuy employees counting and verifying my take. One actually marched over to the customer service manager to ask him if the price match game I planned is legit. Manager told him flat out that if the ad doesn't state one per customer and if the competition (Compusa) have them in stock then there's no problem. I told them they'd be seeing me again Sunday morning and to have their cash register warmed up....

I know both san jose and santa clara are out as of today but each compusa will save some for tomorrow sale. Bestbuy and compusa will open at the same time tomorrow. We (probably I am not the only one) can have bestbuy call compusa first thing. I still have one from compusa so if bestbuy doesn't fall through I keep the compusa one.

Bruda: so you can buy at BB before the sale, then show them the CompUSA ad tomorrow and get the PM even if they are no longer in stock at CompUSA? Correct?

Brudha I think your taking this a little to far if add says limit one per person then i dont think best buy will refund you more than that. unless you bought each one seperatly witch i doubt.

Have we confirmed that it is 1 per customer? I am looking at the ad and all the text that refers to one per customer and limited quantities is down in the corner with the 667MHz Celeron computer. The asterisk by the Iomega drive refers to 32x max. All that other junk by the one per customer definitely does not apply to the Iomega drive (56k blah blah blah, 48x max blah blah blah, software preloaded, blah blah.)

Compusa has to have the same or more in stock as what you are price matching with. Shouldn't matter if Bestbuy has them in stock or not at the time - and they shouldn't after you leave with your cartfull. Like I said before, I'm calling the Compusa National Call Center just before Bestbuy's doors open to find the actual inventory numbers of all the local stores. A couple hours ago that totalled 140!!

Why is this stuff surfacing again with the 'one per customer' debate? I thought we had that settled 100 posts ago!! Show me where it states this please or get some glasses. Even if Compusa gets scared as the day goes on tomorrow and decides to start putting up some sign or something to this effect, then all the more reason to get to Bestbuy as soon as their doors open!! If history plays itself out, they won't be able to get Compusa on the phone anyway to verify availability and rules since locally Compusa rarely answers their phones. Just so the printed flyer doesn't have any limit. Even if they did, you can always make the circuit of Bestbuy stores and price match individually until Compusa runs out. People are making way too much of this - either it works or it doesn't - might as well play the game to the fullest!

Guys, please read the whole thread before you post "One per person" or "Rebate not good." We've already debated this. There is no limit on the ad, and there are two rebates. One rebate until the 31st and one after the 1st.

Anyways. Still 20+ left in Tulsa. And a CSR said we could do the PM tomorrow.

Dang, it must be all out when I try to "rob" the store tomorrow.
Oh well, this seems like the hottest deal this whole year.
I bet this is going to be reaching post 500 tomorrow.
