This drive comes with a 1.8 meg buffer, the plextor has 4 megs. If you bought the drive from onvia a week ago, you could have paid $199.99 + paperclips - $40 = ~$160.xx

Coldfusion -- what the hell is your point? I paid $85 for mine at Best Buy last night, and it has a 2MB buffer with burnproof. Nero says 2048K -- ... I can have TWO DRIVES for what you paid for yours! That gets me my 4MB buffer :)

With burnproof, what does it matter?!

DDDay, typically price matching rules specify the competitor must have stock available to sell at that price. If not, Compusa could eventually drive Bestbuy out of business by placing bogus ads they didn't intend to honor, yet expect others to have their inventory cleaned out.

Went to the TULSA store, they had two left, tried to pick them up, zit faced, punk a$$ kid told me he knew nothing about it, must be a regional thing, they were not a part of it, no way I could get one at that price. He even called his mgr and they said no.

I think the beotch was lying, but what can you do? >(

Ok, I went to my local Comp USA this evening to pick up one of these little beauties..:) They keep the cdrw's behind the counter, so I went up and asked if they had any ZIP 12x cdrw's. The guy looked at me kinda funny, and said he'd check the inventory. A few minutes later, the manager came out and said they didn't have any instock. I said, "but how are you gonna have your big sale tomorrow if you don't have any stock :)" He then admitted that they had 25 of them, but he couldn't sell them till tomorrow. After BS'ing with him that I had driven all this way, I finally got him to put one on hold for me for tomorrow!!! :D So now.....I should be able to go to Best Buy and get the ZIP CD 12x, and Comp USA is guarenteed to have one instock since I have mine on hold!!!! Then I can go to Comp USA and buy my second one!! Do you think Best Buy will honor the Instant rebate? I'm not sure if they will honor rebates... I sure hope so though so I can get my 110%!!!!!

I checked stock for my local store. They show the $129 price on the website now. For all of you that can't make it to a B&M it's only $5.00 for ground ship. Still worth it.

For those around the L.A. Area...

Just came back from the Pico Blvd. Best Buy near UCLA, about 6 drives available, and the Culver City Comp USA is prolly out of stock. The At Water Best Buy is out (thanks to us), and Best Buy will do price matching with no problems. Best Buy will give 10% price adjustment for Price Protection and NOT for Price Matching!!! (Be ware). If you can't get the drive at Best Buy and Comp USA is out, Fry's Electronics (at least in Burbank) has a few, and they DO price match to CompUSA and Price Protect with CompUSA. Good luck, our Crusade has ended, hope yours begin with much luck.

P.S. If you really can't find this drive at all, I know for a fact that two people will be returning their drives to Culver City (Los Angeles) CompUSA tomorrow sometime maybe before Noon. You might be able to convince them to let you have those drives.

For reference sake, after taxes, at Best Buy, our drives came out to be $116.45, did everyone else get this price?

I got the tdk version of the drive that I was told was a repackaged plextor that also works with their firmware updates. their package came with nero and the drive has been sweet. I have burnt everything at full speed. at 12x a full cd is around 7 minutes. I have made some discs along with rewriteable backups and its been all good. I even have gone about doing other things at the same time with burnproof and haven't had a coaster. It was definately a good time to upgrade and nice to have such speedy discs if you use burners. I just upgraded from a 2x drive and its really cool. Mine was also more expensive. I believe it will be around $180 total shipped after a mail in $50 rebate, 1cdrw disc, and 50 74min cdrs.

plus I have read a bunch of print and online reviews about these plextor units with burnproof and everything seems positive, unlike some other products out their right now.

Whalen and JoeFoster, this is NOT an instant rebate! Drop this bad terminology - it is a two day sale, plain and simple. If you read the thread (even just this last page) you'll find ppl are already price matching at BB.

Question: When we go to CompUSA tomorrow to get the $150+tax lifted for each drive, do we do it in the RETURNS line or at the register?

H8tank: When I was in there they had tons of drives. Also a friend went in about 7:30 and said they had at least 20. But I talked to a CSR that said I could get the deal tomorrow.

400th post!

I'm about to order one of these bitches online, thanks for the heads-up on this one..
Now, is there anyway to change the ID of the drive to say Plextor or not?

Does the item really have to be in stock at CompUSA to pricematch at Best Buy? I've pricematched before right at the counter. Just told the cashier that I wanted to pricematch, and she rang it up at the lower price. It was only for a DVD, but perhaps it will work again. What can I lose?
