Can't believe this 'one per customer' bit is once again coming up. Please follow your fingers of the asterisk to the correct location in the ad. And look to the big blue border that separates the HP computer and the Iomega. I'm on my way to Bestbuy for their price protection policy... Local stores haven't opened yet and they have over 100 in stock. You must get to Bestbuy as their doors open. Good Luck!

Just got back from Bham, AL CompUSA. Got one. Only five people waiting for store to open at 10:00. I was the only one looking for drive. They had about 50-60 stacked on the floor. Apparently not a lot of Anandtechers in this "neck" of the woods...

Brudha, all I know is that regardless of how you interpret the layout of the ad, the store manager was instructing all of the clerks to do this deal 1 PER CUSTOMER by the time I left. Your mileage may vary...

Just got mine from CompUSA. Clarification of the $30 Iomega MIR. The rebate is valid from Dec. 30th, 2000, thru March 31st, 2000. A new rebate form, so everyone should be covered.

The Best Buy in the Cleveland, Ohio area has this drive for the same price as Comp USA. You guys might want to check there first if Best Buy is closer than Comp USA. Enjoy.

LOL I saw some guy walk out the store with 5 of them. So much for the limit.

Anyways...

Since this is a 2-day sale do you think CompUSA will keep some in back stock for tomorrow? I know when my local store opened they had a 2-day sale and only sold a limited amount of items the first day and then brought out more stock on the second day.

Also my rebate from the store says Dec 30,2000 - March 31, 2001

Just picked one up in the Boise Idaho store. When the doors opened there were about 6 people who rushed in for this deal but I was in the store 15-20 minutes and there were still about a dozen remaining when I left 10 minutes ago!

Yes, the rebate forms are good from Dec 20 to March 31.

I waited outside one of our CompUSAs... first they opened late making us wait in the cold... then they could get their registers "logged on".

On the bright side, because of the hassle, they gave those of us waiting outside an additional 10% off.

Woohoo 2 12x burners for 117 + tax each. :) And yes, I have the receipt to prove it if anyone starts calling me on it.

I strolled into Compusa this morning at 10 minutes after 10:00 with my receipt from Friday.

Most everyone at the register had one of these drives... shelves were empty.

I handed the receipt and the flier to the girl, she did a return, then rang me up a new receipt, $137.79 out the door... now to fill out the rebate. $107.79 for a Plexor 12/10/32, sounds good to me!

Thanks again to Kitros for the original heads up on this deal.

Well, the CompUSA in Southern CT opens at 11 AM...I went in at 12 noon to get the difference refunded (I bought it on Friday). I had NO problems. Just out of curiosity I went to the shelves. There was a ton of 8X drives, but NO 12X ones. Strange since when I bought mine on Friday I must have counted over 15 of the 12X ones. I almost didn't buy it then thinking I should just come in on Sunday.

Boy, am I glad I didn't wait. A worker at the store said they were all gone by 11:30 AM !!! Wow !!

Good luck..and thanks again for this deal. BTW, the firmware on mine is 1.06.

Now the biggest challenge is to see if someone can write a program to change the ID of the drive so it identifies itself as a Plextor 12/10/32A. Anyone with this drive want to share what the Drive ID for it is? ... This would give us added benefits for using the drive with PlextorManager 2000 or PlexTools, for CD-2-CD copies and new firmware upgrades made by Plextor would be usable...

OK, here's my story: First of all I don't want to come right out and say "I told you so!", but; I do want to quiet all you naysayers about this limit of 'one per customer' business - I don't know how many times I stated it needs to say it in the ad about the limit. I specifically spelled out the steps to take in this deal and like I said before, preparation is the key to these things - so if you snooze, you lose. I don't know why anyone even messed around with Compusa on this deal unless you didn't have a Bestbuy store around - why even chance Compusa's last minute in-store policy that might override what the ad states. You must have pre-purchased these things from Bestbuy so their price protection + 10% kicks in because they typically reduce their prices the same day the competitors have lower prices. The key to the whole deal was to get there first thing today (I was the first one in Bestbuys doors) and march right over to the customer service counter and talk with the manager. Actually it was even easier than I thought it would be since she didn't even call Compusa for availability numbers but she did give me a hassle in saying that they had the same price today as Compusa's. I calmly pointed to their big 'Price Protection Policy' plaque up on the wall behind her and told her these were already purchased so the additional 10% kicks in. She agreed and reluctantly began the arduous task of returning all of mine and re-ringing each one up separately as I asked her to do since there might be less questions raised for rebate purposes since you have to make a copy of the original receipt in additon to the 'proof of purchase rebate form' that prints out at the register. A $165 credit per unit was especially nice to see! This time I did empty out her roll of paper at the register and the whole process took less than an hour. This sure was FUN!! Nice way to end the year!! Call it what you will, but when a deal like this comes around with two national electronics giants involved you must play the GAME to the fullest!!

I got Mine!

In case anyone living in the bay area was wondering, the Emeryville store is sold out!

This deal came just in time too. My Plextor 4 X 12 just died on me.

Excellent Deal!

Mustanggt, then I hope people at least pre-purchased it and price matched today from Bestbuy to maximize the savings...

I hoofed it over to the Long Beach, CA store at about 9:55 so I could price match and get it over with, and there were about 15 people waiting for the store to open.

While everyone rushed to the counter to pick up a drive, I went straight to the returns and got the price match. After hearing some heated arguments, I found out that the store had one left, and a dozen or so people were livid, with the "leader" yelling things like "bait and switch", and "deceptive advertising"... Boy am I glad I picked mine up two days ago :D

They promptly credited my card $324.75 (whew!) for the two drives. Thanks to MrVW, Wedesdo, Kitros, and everyone else who contributed to this fantastic deal. Now I need to find a great deal on high speed CDRW's !!!

Well, got mine. I must have been at the same store as Schmo because the exact same thing happened. Paid $117 plus tax. Cool!

Oh, and BTW, there is a one per person limited stated in the ad, and when they ring up more than one, "LIMIT CHECK" pops up on the register, but because of the hassle we had, the manager allowed us to purchase all we wanted.

Oh man, I'm so happy!!!! I bought 2 this morning at my local Compusa. My poor brother, he wouldn't get there when the store opened. They had 30 I think, but after the first 5 minutes they were down to like 20. I don't think my bro is going to make it. Maybe he can still get them online.Good luck suckas!!!

Rawdog $117 is nothing ! I got them at $99.00

Well i got to the store today to get the 150 buck refund on each of my drives that i bought yesterday and the girl behind the counter said it would be easier for her to just ring it up as 2 returns and then charge me for 2 new ones. i said ok - so she gave me credit for my 2*279+tax and then rang up 2 new ones at not 129 but $99. guess she overlooked the mail-in-rebate comment. So now i have 2 @ $99 and then send in the rebates which will make it $ 69 for each drive i got.
Can't beat that one !!!!! a 69$ plextor - oh sorry Iomega - I just love it !

Tiger :D :D :D

Something that I found to be funny.
Some of the peolpe planning on buying more than 1 and selling the others on *bay, already had their auctions started before they got the drives.
Easy to pick out who they are. In the auction they list the drive as brand new ( Note: Proof of Purchase removed )
There was only 3 listings for this drive 2 days ago, now there is 23.
