you are better off pricematching it at the checkout counter..they dont really know alot there about model nnumbers or in stock policies..the salespeople in the computer department wont let you do it if it isnt in stock though.

Yea, price-match at the Best Buy register, with CompUSA ad in hand. I did this on the Epson 860 printer a while back (pricematched with an OD add) and the guy rang it right up. Didn't call a manager or anything.

Hmm...I already have two of these drives. Should a go for a couple more at BB tomorrow?

i went to my compusa earlier (3-4) and got one
i only saw 3 on the shelf (maybe they had more in back)
i asked the guy there and he said that i could bring it back there and they would do the price adjustment. when i go back tomorrow and get my money back im gonna see if they have any left. if they do ill get one and send it to any unlucky person who was looking for one.
thanks again
happy new year!

<< Now, is there anyway to change the ID of the drive to say Plextor or not? >>

Why not just edit your registry? Search for all 'Iomega' entries and change it to Plextor.

And for the other comment being made about Best Buy 'playing dumb' and pulling all of the Iomega drives off the shelf, then you are wrong! Usually, my Best Buy marks their price down on these items to the price CompUSA is selling the drive at during sales like this. I've seen this done on monitors and other computer devices in the past. Of course, there has to be a local CompUSA in order for this to apply.

While this deal may seem outstanding (and it is!), I think one of the reasons for this very nice price is because of the new 16x drives that have been released. Whenever this happens, the next drive down the food chain drops in price. I guess we'll see other 'price adjustments' from other drive manufacturers to reflect this. However, these price adjustments may not be as good as this CompUSA sale price, though.

Good luck to y'all - this thread is getting awesome! 400+ posts.

Thanks to those who have worked through the firmware updates to permit this drive to go to 1.07. 32x rips - here I come!

On the first hint of this deal, I drove nearly 100 miles and picked two up 'cause the local one was out of stock. (for me and my brother). Now that I have the ad in hand -- I'm off to get my $300 back.

Two words -- Awesome deal!

I broke down and placed an order for one online as well. $139 shipped 2nd day air... to me! :p
Does anyone know how CompUSA.com works as far as fufilling orders? Are items sent directly from the nearest B&M location, or is there a central warehouse (or several)? Is stock calculated real-time on the website (ie, 'ships in 24 hours' vs 'no stock') and is the stock status determined when you place the order, or when someone gets around to looking for the item to package it up for shipping?

Sorry if I sound paranoid, it's just that I am. <g>

This is one massive thread, for a great deal! Made even hotter by Wedesdo & mrVW's firmware contributions! I think I speak for many when I say, thanks!

Just got mine from the store...I was the first one to pull up in the parking lot :D When they let us in, one guy was so excited to get in that he popped his head with a loud *BANG *on the metal security grate that comes down behind the sliding doors at closing time (the dumb CompUSA flunkies forgot to push it all the way up):D

Everyone headed straight for the CDRWs like a heard of cows ;) There were about 15 on the shelf and they were all gone in about 1 minute. Some people had 2 or 3 under their arms, and I saw one of the employees (who looked like he didn't know about the deal) grab one and put it behind the counter when he saw what was up.

Muahaha :D

Anyone here from Queens? I just got back and there was a mad rush of about 20 people toward the CDRW section. I think they were cleared out in less than a minute.

Just got back from the Tysons Corner store. Arrived 9:50AM to find 30 people already outside. When the doors opened, I was confused because there was a mad dash over to the counter where you buy hard drives and memory, while I was hoofing it to the middle of the store where the CD-RW drives are. YOINK, got 2 of them. Lucky for me, too... Once the herd realized they were in the wrong place for the CD-RW deal they rushed the middle of the store while I ducked clear with my loot. Off to the checkout, where I got hassled by a clerk at another register who said specials are 1 per customer. I said "It doesn't say that in the flyer", honestly thinking that it didn't. That cast enough doubt that the manager sent a stockboy off to get a flyer and double-check. Meanwhile, my clerk sees his line growing and growing and goes ahead and just checks me out with two. As I hit the exit the manager hands me the flyer and points to the asterisk next to the price, then I follow her finger down to the fine print where it indeed says something about 1 per customer, although I had already paid so see ya.

Anyway, all gut-wrenching action and drama aside, the moral of the story is this: some of the folks who bought multiple drives Fri. and Sat. hoping to come back and get them all pricematched may not have much luck unless you went to the trouble of getting each one on a separate receipt.

Folks, I know that the 1-per-customer thing has been debated here already, I'm just telling you what my personal experience was with the manager of the Tysons Corner VA store. Your mileage may certainly vary, so just like grandma used to say, "Don't count your multiple $99 CompUSA ZipCDs before you actually walk out the door with them today, or go back and successfully get your pricematch for ones you bought ahead of time" or something like that...

Welp, I just got back from CompUSA on 5th Ave, nyc. I got there at 9:51 AM and there were 6 people. When they opened there were about 8 more. Only about 7 actually went to the CD-RW section. There were about 20-25 boxes, I didn't bother counting. Funny thing is, some had the sticker seal broken. I heard someone say a "back of a truck" remark. Oh well, I got mine, looks sealed. It works just fine. w00t!

Thanks for the deal. I bought one yesterday in Lexington, KY (as did many other people ;) )...I arrived at 10:10am this morning and all were sold. Price matched with the ad and am now home getting ready to install. $137.00+ (after tax) - $30.00 (rebate dated between 12/30/2000-3/31/01) = $107 (and change)...

Again, thanks for the great deal...keep em coming!!! :D:D:D

Got the the store here in Richmond at about 8:30 when they were opening at 10. Just wanted to be extra sure. They had about 25 or 30 I picked up 1 and my buddy picked up 1 too. There were several others there getting in on the action. They might still have a couple left but I am sure they are going to go fast.

Good deal, good deal! If you didn't know about this sale ahead of time when you went to my local store, you'd never find out about it (their newspaper ad wasn't available near the door) - the 12x10x32 Iomegas were all in lockup, no prices on the shelves (because of price instability). But once you ask them for the drive, out they come :)
