As I said, there's a legit reason to do this, since the expecation is that all DIY sales should plummet because of the RAM prices. This is a novelty to sell to people who won't care about spending the extra dough.

40% pricier for maybe a 5% (max, and that's a stretch) improvement in performance. Meh.

Whole system replacements may slow down, but CPU only upgrades (from Zen 4) should be a thing.

And the 9850x3d / 9950x3d2 make the those CPU only upgrades extra appealing to owners of lower end Zen 4 CPUs. Those customers pretty much all have DDR5-6000, which is still just fine.

Corpos still need to buy PCs for their workers, although I'm sure a lot will delay purchases if possible. (And they probably aren't buying models with x3d)

MLID released a new pre-recorded video. Nothing really newsworthy, except Tom is convinced that 9850x3d is a new stepping, while Dan thinks it is 9800x3d "overclocked". And they don't even notice these statements are quite contradictory.

Can confirm, I am likely going to upgrade my 7950X at some point. Next chip will need to be X3D, however. Waiting to see if the mythical X3D2 launches.

Tom at MLID tripled down on his prediction (in the new livestream) that the new 9850x3d / 9950x3d2 CPUs have a new stepping for CCD and is using better binning for IOD.

He mentions ability of these new CPUs to run at DDR5-9800. Which may not really add too much unless the link between the chiplets can go up to, say 2,450 MHz x 4 = 9800.
