FYI: There's no such thing as electrocuting a little bit. Unless you're posting from beyond the grave. 😉 😱 😱

lol

Unless you're posting from the other side, you weren't "electrocuted".

Edit: DOH!

dude I electrocuted myself the other day too cause my cellphone charger broke and one of the prongs got stuck in the outlet and me being stupid tried to grab it. Whats really funny is I did it twice.

Funny for us, yeah.

i was taking an outlet apart in my dorm room to find the stud in the wall to hang up a guitar mount. i touched the outlet to pull it out of the box its in and it zapped me a little bit.

any health complications follow from being zapped? it didn't hurt, just kind of make me jump. felt like touching an electrified fence in a field (not peeing on it.)

edit: also how do i find a stud without any tools? if i tap on the wall i don't really know what sound i'm looking for.

You're going to die.

When I was a kid, I unplugged a vacuum cleaner from the wall and accidentally grabbed both prongs and the ground... hurt like a motherfscker.

okay guys i still can't find the stud in the wall... maybe this room doesn't have any 😕 should i measure like 1.5" from the window frame 16 inches over? will i find one?

do you need a stud for what your hanging? Maybe you can just anchor it.

i am hanging a guitar from a wall. i would really like a stud, feels more safe. i have never anchored anything in drywall before. so if that is a good way to go i will do it that way.

There will be a stud adjacent to the outlet box--one side or the other. You can't get there by measuring from a window, as the edge of the window won't necessarily line up with the 16" o.c. stud pattern.

Simply remove the outlet cover, leave the outlet in place and look between the box and the drywall (there will be room in 95% of the cases). There's your stud.

Good luck.

Oh, by the way, the one post about "You're going to die"? They're right, but not for a long time. Probably. 😀
