FYI: There's no such thing as electrocuting a little bit. Unless you're posting from beyond the grave. ;)

lol

Unless you're posting from the other side, you weren't "electrocuted".

Edit: DOH!

any health complications follow from being zapped? it didn't hurt, just kind of make me jump. felt like touching an electrified fence in a field (not peeing on it.)

edit: also how do i find a stud without any tools? if i tap on the wall i don't really know what sound i'm looking for.

You're going to die.

When I was a kid, I unplugged a vacuum cleaner from the wall and accidentally grabbed both prongs and the ground... hurt like a motherfscker.

i am hanging a guitar from a wall. i would really like a stud, feels more safe. i have never anchored anything in drywall before. so if that is a good way to go i will do it that way.

Do you have a loud electric razor? Slowly shave the wall horizontally. The sound from the razor will change when you get to a stud.

There will be a stud adjacent to the outlet box--one side or the other. You can't get there by measuring from a window, as the edge of the window won't necessarily line up with the 16" o.c. stud pattern.

Simply remove the outlet cover, leave the outlet in place and look between the box and the drywall (there will be room in 95% of the cases). There's your stud.

Good luck.

Oh, by the way, the one post about "You're going to die"? They're right, but not for a long time. Probably. :D
