Do so many people actually watch YouTube videos that much? Some of them are kinda cool, but some are pretty dumb. I also can't stand social media. So dumb. Well I guess that just reinforces the fact that I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

I saw some data recently that said Youtube gets watched more than TV, Netflix, Disney+ etc.

i also haven't watched any TV shows in almost 10 years

maybe that's because i'm more amish than gen Z though
I wouldn't describe myself that way, but most of my video content is delivered via YouTube these past few years too. I'll watch the odd series on Netflix or Prime occasionally, but that's been maybe 1 series per year (going through Good Omens 2 now)

It helps - just a smidge - that it is (mostly) free :D

Just recently I broke down and started paying for YT Premium mainly because I use YT music every day on my Android phone where ad-blocking is seriously gimped compared to Windows.

I would say 90% of what I watch on video is on Youtube so to me it's completely worth the approx $3.50 per week. :)

My kid/ generation Z doesn't watch TV.
Yep, I have two children ages 21 and 16 and they rarely watch "live" or network tv. Most of their content is viewed through YT or other sites like Twitch. They do occasionally watch some shows on streaming services like D+ or Netflix but very rarely.

Honestly I'm kinda the same way. I rarely watch network tv or tv on streaming services.

I wonder how many people are like me in that they clicked on the link, saw "1hr 34min" and immediately noped their way out of there.

One and a half hours on that topic! I take it gravity took a long time for their leap from the top rope? Or does it first include his trials in getting planning permission for the stadium?

Why keep posting about how you don't have the time? Get back to work.

There is no TLDW/L for what the Doc covered. I will only state, that he just took everyone to school. HIs education, experience, and considerable intellect are on full display. He is not only the adult in the room, he's the smartest guy in the room. As far as the tech journalism and review industry is concerned.

He does need to work on his "LTT" second camera angle though, he looks like a robot talking into the distance when he switches. Having watched it I did briefly go a bit Tropic Thunder and think that he nearly went full anal.

-The Fam is slowly turning to YT more and more for our nightly "relax" videos.

I personally love Zero Punctuation and the Honest Trailers stuff for short and sweet infotainment stuff.

There are restoration videos that make for great relaxing pre-bedtime cozy viewing with the kids (no loud music, no continuous talking, videos are sort of productive and educational).

We also look Tasting History, Babbish, Townsends for some fun cooking shows.

There is actually a ton of really really cool stuff out there on YT that is no less professional than some basic cable shows we used to watch but much more on point with regular content, huge backlogs, customizable to your taste.

Its not all Gen Z WHUT WHUT BS.

According to Social Blade, Linus Tech Tips has lost 200,000 subscribers since the incident began, though the channel still has 15.4 million subs
That confirms it. Their fanbase is comprised of sleazeballs, predominantly male.

This is why I could never do IT stuff publicly online...I don't have like 1/100th of the executive function required to do these types of historical deep-dive analysis projects. I have trouble remembering which waffle irons I have :p

Yeah, the only relevant thing in that overly long - and by extension, overly self-important - video is near the very end, he vehemently declines being bunched in with "The tech crowd" in attacking LTT for being unprofessional. Which is absolutely fine, when your channel has 90k subscribers, you aren't by definition the mainstream.
But more likely, it pays in views, and then money, to talk about the hot subject of the week. Dude, youtube has REACTION VIDEOS on the LTT scandal. This is how you make yourself relevant on youtube.

.. you know, maybe this whole thing wouldn't have started if LTT didnt talk shit about "hardware unboxed and others". Anyone that fails to note that this thing started *with* LTT attacking HU for no reason, is in turn not professional.

How many subbed years ago, and don't bother checking YouTube anymore (much less unsubbing as a statement)?

Good point. If someone is not visiting a subbed channel for a year or more, they should automatically be moved to an inactive group. So they can see in their account that they once subbed to that channel. But the channel sub figures won't be falsely inflated then.

I'm pretty sick of all of these computer YT channels and their stupid drama. I've unsubscribed from LTT, GN, and Jayz2cents. There's allot better stuff to watch on YouTube (Formula 1, Catholic prayer and theology, Geopolitics, economic, history......).
