How many subbed years ago, and don't bother checking YouTube anymore (much less unsubbing as a statement)?
i am one who was subbed at some point. I would go to them for things like Cases reviews .. maybe monitors. Eventually Hardware Canucks became so much better than anyone else in the realm of case reviews, that i unsubbed from LTT.

I always thought LTT were too sensationalistic - meaning they really really put a lot of importance on "how cool this THING is" - and their reviews were targeted at kids, and people who'll never actually buy the product reviewed. Think, your internet 15yo kid that loves watching HOW POWERFUL is the new 98700 XXX DeathExplosion IntelVidia video card, in the same way people watch videos of Ferraris and Lamborghini being reviewed.

Hardware Unboxing actually does some pretty solid reviews when it comes to low end products, be they GPUs, or mobos, and i find his advice a lot more .. uh .. "relevant" to my actual purchase of parts.

I've not subbed to LTT but I have watched some of their videos. I've noticed them getting more click-baity and sensationalist.

After this recent hootenanny I just told YouTube to not recommend videos from that channel any more.

Linus slapped back tonight on the WAN Show and put Gamers Nexus in their place.

Linus seems a little dishonest and self-centered and Steve seems like a bit of a jerk. I've bought merch from both, and used to watch both, but LTT has raised too many red flags for me. There's nothing really going on in tech that I care much about, so I haven't had the energy to really look into what's going on with these two.

I followed this a little, and I just find find it a little weird that Linus is getting all pissy at Steve when the LTT clip was featured in Megalag's original Honey exposé video.

Linus may not have known all the shady stuff with Honey - and I never got the impression from GN's video that they were accusing LTT of knowing all the shady stuff about Honey - but he knew Honey was doing some shady stuff at least with last click stealing. A poorly read forum post is hardly a public announcement when dropping a sponsor for being shady. They could have at least made a brief mention in a video, or pinned comments to old videos that featured Honey as a sponsor. He certainly had the clout as a large platform to stand up for what is right for other creators.

Interesting. I don't get the impression that Linus would do something he knows is just wrong, but he seems to have questionable judgement and seems to feel attacked by any criticism at all. I think they're both probably decent people. I will give Linus this, though - the LTT screwdriver is hands down the best I've ever used. Pricey, but so good I bought two of them. I have about four GN mouse mats. :p

GN hae emerged as the best consumer advocates in the space. They do a lot of good for their community and charities.

LTT is TV programming. It's entertaining most of the time, and can be informative. I don't look to them for advice or data on PC hardware. And WTF happened to Anthony? Is he on one of their other channels now? I don't watch much of their content, but can't remember the last time I saw him.

In an independent review it outscored more expensive models.

It's GN T-shirts with me. The yearly disappointment tour is a must have too. Still waiting for 2024 to make it through shipping.

Wish her the best.

It also happened with Elementary OS admin Danielle. Even though I'm a LMDE person.. I keep an eye on backups and Elementary OS was sorta appealing because it's clean.. but I hate the Mac look.. however it keeps making me look at it!

i also haven't watched any TV shows in almost 10 years

maybe that's because i'm more amish than gen Z though

Haven't watched TV for 20 years. Mainly because at that time my income took a big knock and I could no longer afford/justify the TV licence fee. Then I realised I didn't miss it at all (mainly because the internet and second-hand-dvds-from-charity-shops filled that gap).

[EDIT]Also, straying into P&N, I decided I didn't want to pay to fund the Tory mouthpiece BBC. The right-wing bias of the Beeb has become unbearable over the years.

Yeah, I think it's increasingly hard to justify.

It's a dilemma because the alternative is a media run and controlled entirely by the likes of Murdoch. We already have multiple right-wing Fox-News-like stations, and their owners have been pretty clear that they don't mind not making money out of it, as long as they can pump out their propaganda. But the BBC itself is hardly independent of government, as the government appoints its management and sets the level of that licence fee, and the Conservatives have been pretty ruthless about exploiting that to persuade it to act as a mouthpiece for the Tory Party.

The reality is that free-speech and capitalism are incompatible. You have one or the other. In fact, free-speech itself may be a chimera, that is unobtainable, as either speech ends up controlled by the rich people who own the means of speaking, or it ends up controlled by government.

Funnily enough the BBC began as a means to sell radios. Manufacturers of radios had the problem that there was no available 'content' to justify anyone buying them. Hence the BBC was set up to provide such content, to enable the manufacturers to sell those radios. The licence fee began as a means to fund that, to enable the broadcast media to get off the ground (otherwise you had the problem that there was no audience to justify starting a broadcast media company, but no audience would form till there was something to listen to).
