I'm a generous tipper. But it sounds like this guy may not have deserved it. I mean, let's face it, someone who is gracious and gives you good service is not going to turn around and start micturating on your property if you don't tip them. They may call you an asshole under their breath and move on. The type of person who pisses on your door? They probably didn't deserve the tip from the get-go.

Who the pizza guy is has nothing to do with what I'm talking about though. This lady ordered delivery, and she didn't have enough money to tip. We're talking ~$5, and this lady didn't have that much money, so wtf is she doing ordering delivery? She's an idiot. The delivery guy could be a saint or the worst guy in the world, none of that matters in regards to what I'm talking about.

I don't understand why people dont tip for delivery.
Because they are assholes.

I always tip a minimum of $3 for delivery (and that's if I get a sub!), although I rarely get delivered pizza.

To retards who don't tip:
It was delivered to you! You didn't have to move your fat ass off the couch.
You didn't have to waste gas. You didn't have to go out into the cold weather.
You had one job. One job! Pay the man a few dollars for his trouble and gas.

If you don't tip, expect your door to get peed on.

there is one place here that has a $5 delivery charge. should we tip on top of that?

I got sick and tired of paying the $2.00 delivery fee plus the $2.00 to $3.00 tip on a $10 to $15 pizza.

Now, I just place the order online, and have the wifey pick it up on the way home from work. No tip, no delivery fee. BOOM!

To answer your question yes I would tip. That extra fee isn't going to the delivery guy, and the tip is for the delivery guy. However, I wouldn't order delivery from a place that added a $5 fee.

Funny, I always tip and once we order in at my friend's house, and the dudes wife goes, I dont believe in tipping delivery guy.

I told my wife, we're never eating take out at their house, they'll spit and do stuff to your food the next time you order.

Agree with Red Storm. I never understood why people can be so damn cheap sometimes. I've never in my life worked in a serving job but I always tip and what most people would consider generous. The funniest part of all of this is that I've seen a lot of the people in this thread, who don't tip, complain about how jobs are shipped overseas etc in the P&L forum. Jobs were shipped overseas because Americans want cheaper products from walmart etc... You get those cheaper products by reducing costs. Meanwhile they want a delviered pizza for the same cost it takes to pick it up.

People are just sad.

Ask the shop who gets the $5 delivery fee. If the driver gets it all, then no tip is required.
If the delivery fee goes to the shop, then yes, you still need to tip the driver or not order from there.

If you don't want to tip the delivery guy (or pay the delivery fee), don't get delivery. Order the pizza, get off your fat ass and drive to the pizza place.

And that's the problem with pizza delivery people and servers, they for some reason think they deserve a bunch of extra money for doing basic customer service and most of the time do a shitty job at it.

Imagine this situation......

It is the dead of winter and its cold with wind chill and snow on the ground. You feel hungry and its late and almost time for the pizza joint to close. You call for a pizza from your warm cozy dwellings and order food.
Then some delivery person has to go out in the cold (wind chill) and try to get to your place (you could live really far away) before the food gets cold. The roads are a mess and black ice is present. He brings the food to your house in reasonable time considering the conditions.

In those types of situation, can anyone here safely say they would not give that guy a good tip?

In my area we also have delivery charge places and "free delivery"

Free delivery gets a bigger tip, delivery charge gets like 2 bucks, I assume they charge that and give it to the driver or something.

I'm sorry but if you don't have enough money to tip and you're ordering delivery, you're fucking pathetic.

QFT, sad how so many here believe otherwise.

The restaurant I worked for as a teenager banned anyone that didn't tip from ordering. If they wanted off the list they had to bring a tip in and it had to be reasonable.

I like that.

Tipping is great in America, it's a good way for everyone around that person to see the cheap skates and assmunchers that have no business going out to eat.

fuck the percentage. i usually give $2 then $1 for each pizza over 2.

That's a fucking shitty tip for a pizza...it's typical though. Back in 1988/1989 or so when I delivered the dominoes guys would usually take 5 times the deliveries we did (I delivered chinese food), but the price per order was almost the same for both of us ($20 at the time). They'd get the 'change', we'd average $2-3. At the end of the nights we'd have about double the tips for a lot less work.

IMHO the minimum for a pizza today should be a $5 tip. I tipped this even back in the 90's. I don't really order too much delivery now and I usually tip about 20% on average at a restaurant or a min of $3.

You tip $5 for pizza yet you stopped paying your mortgage.

Did you read the post I made before this one?

I think one should look at certain factors before tipping. I mean if the Pizza place is only a few blocks away and the weather is good then maybe $3 might be more appropriate?

dude, it's getting lame. I stopped paying my mortgage due to none of my payments being applied to it for 4+ years. At the same time you toolbags say I was stupid for even waiting that long / trying to work it out with the mortgage company.

I live in a major city, most delivery places even outside that have a limited delivery 'circle'. You are pretty much almost always just a few blocks away.
