Yes, exactly. What I'm saying is the best defense round isn't going to be the one that obliterates them, it'll be the round that does as much damage as possible without over-penetration, such that you reduce the risk to others.

If we're talking bear defense, then I'd recommend a 3" Sabot Slug in a shotgun run as hot as you can shoot safely, because over penetration isn't the issue and you need the most stopping power you can get.

Am I making sense?
 
A shotgun will always be ideal for home defense but the reason so many people are suggesting handguns is you can get permit and also have protection away from thw house.

Any lower weight soft point or hollow point if penetration is a concern.

Those are still going to penetrate like crazy through your typical home walls. We're issued Federal 55gr TRU SP's using the same theory but it's still going to kill someone in the next room on an errant shot.

I live in an apartment, 000 or 00 Buckshot for me as slugs go RIGHT through drywall and keep going.

Depends on what your house is made of. If it's like mine - plaster on galvanized lathe over either wood substrate (interior walls) or 3 courses of brick (exterior) then you have a lot less worries about over-penetration than your modern toxic Chinese gypsum drywall house.

Yep because your house is 1 or 2% of the population, therefore, bullet penetration is not an issue for everyone else. :thumbsup:
