Picking up the SP-01 today woooo. Kinda nervous. The ffl is some dudes house I think.

The two FFLs i've dealt with the most were just like that.. It saves me a bunch on transfer fees, plus they're making a little money while having a great excuse to buy guns. Sounds like a win-win

Can you guys recommend a medium-large game rifle for around $350?

I currently own a Ruger 10/22 and a break action shotgun and am looking to go deer hunting this year, and the blind I can use overlooks a field.

Addendum: 30-06 is much preferred, I know ammo costs more, but I'm deer hunting, so realistically I have calibration ammo costs and 5 rounds a year max after that, so the price difference between .308 and 30-06 doesn't weigh to heavily with me.

A sporter 1903A3?

good luck getting one for 350 or less... you also have to be careful of the serial #. low serial # have weak metal.

If you want to go milsurp, get a Mosin Nagant. Around $120 at a retailer.
You could also check for a Enfield.

Problem with milsurps is that you have to ruin collectability to put a scope on them (drill and tap for scope mounts). There are ways to scope one without drilling and tapping but I never hear good things about them.

for new, savage axis is around 350 and i hear good things about those.

i see used Winchester 94s (I think thats what they are, not 100% sure) at Cabelas alot for around 350-400.

Delivery confirmation shows that my handgun was delivered to the FFL at 12:52pm...

It updates late or else I'd have asked him...but wtf? I supposed he'll call me tomorrow, but how long do they typically hold these before they give them to you? I suppose he probably also has a day job, i dunno tho. I'm kind of annoyed, but I dont know if i should be annoyed or not lol.

Relax homie. He'll call you tomorrow.

Hell, you waited this long, what's another day?! :p

Id recommend a Mosin as well. Cheap but effective. I have a friend who takes his out to kill varmit (overkill but still fun) and with iron sights can get out 100 yards on the large ones.

As for collect-ability....if you just get a basic mosin i wouldnt worry about that. There are certain models/features that some find to be worth more but meh. Buy two in your budget if you really want one for collecting :)

And on your scope...make sure its not a rimfire scope. Some cheaper scopes made for rimfires dont do well (ie holding zero) with center fire cartridges

As for Kazaam...relax many "out-of-the-home" FFL's have day jobs so could take a day or two. Heck even some stores can take a day or two depending on who is working at the time.

Alright, thanks guys, just checking its normal that it takes a day or two after delivery. I was actually busy today anyways and I have some snap caps and grease coming in tomorrow so it doesn't really make a difference to me!

Btw, I'm trying weapon shield CLP.

I don't know if I'd call it "normal", thing is the gun industry is one of the few remaining "human" industries. There's a lot of personal contact involved in buying a gun, largely due to protectionism and government regulations, so the experience is more organic. Sometimes you'll order a gun and have to wait a day or two, sometimes it'll be instantaneous. Very different from ordering via Amazon or something.

Heh, I pretty much only have experience with places like amazon. I might email him to see what's going on, I just don't want to annoy him.

Shouldn't annoy him at all, it's business and you're paying him for a service. I once ordered a gun from Texas via gunbroker, paid by money order. A week after I sent payment I sent a polite email requesting an update, got confirmation that they'd received the payment and that they'd be shipping it out the next day, within 6 hours. Nothing to it.

Just don't be a douchebag (which you show no signs of being) and you're fine.

My experience with garage ffl's. They're usually retired or doing it as a side business and unless have a lot of business are MUCH nicer than gun stores and will shoot the shit with you.

Vintage Springfields have to cost way more than I want to spend.

Vintage ones in a scant stock or a C stock, sure. Ones in sporter stocks go for much cheaper because they're no longer worth collecting.

Is your .22 scope able to handle the shock from .30-06 and .308 rounds?
