Kazaam: Do your homework, buy what you like. If you have reservations about this gun, don't get it. If you want an all metal gun and that's something you TRULY want, then get that. My point is: don't buy something you'll regret or sit there saying "I wish I'd bought ___ instead." I had that problem with my Glock. I got a glock because it seemed simple. Then I realized how AWFUL that trigger is. I wished I'd bought a 1911, and it took me two and a half years to finally buy the CCO I have now.

Do I regret my Glock? No, my bro has it now and I'm happy he's armed now. Do I wish I'd bought a 1911 first? Yeah...I do.

My new toys... Currently "in jail" (CA has a 10-day waiting period) right now, I get to pick them up after the 14th.

S&W M&P15T CA compliant:

Sig Sauer 716 CA compliant:

Heh, the background looks like Reed's on 101, which I was at the other day. I've been debating getting the M&P15T and getting a 6.8 SPC / .450 Bushmaster upper for it. I picked up the Sig Sauer 716, but it was a little too heavy for my liking. You been out to shoot them at all yet?

That was indeed Reed's on 101. Haven't shot these yet... Just got cases today and a bipod for the 716. Hopefully I'll get out to Los Altos Rod & Gun within a couple of weeks. :)

I'm just gonna go for it like you said. It's just hard for me because I want to be completely pleased with what I get for my first gun, but I can't really get a hold of a lot here (at least of the ones I'm considering). Another reason why I like the CZ SP-01 is because it's a good platform to build on, and I think I'll really enjoy doing that.

You wont know 100% what you want in a gun the first time anyways. Well unless youve been shooting plenty of other peoples gun then you might. Im sure youll enjoy the CZ just fine and youll have a much better idea what you want in a second gun when it comes to that time. So just order it and start enjoying it! I have ot live bicariously through all you so do it already!

Kazaam, just follow one rule and one rule only...

Pick a gun out for you and you alone, don't go solely on hype or what other people like. Try them out, factor in ammo cost, and pick out what gun fits you the best.

For my first gun I got a Sig 2022 in 9mm mostly because of how everyone raves about Sigs, it was cheaper than a Glock ($350), and shot cheap ammo.

Let's just say I don't own that gun anymore, it was replaced by a gun that I find much more fun to shoot and has a lot more history behind it (Walther P1).

You're going to have people whispering in your ear about .45 being the only way to go, and how Glocks never fail, and how manly 1911s are. Welcome to one of the many hobbies where your choice will be argued against the other party's choice :p.

Also, I have a CZ82 and absolutely love it. The gun is super freaking accurate and may possibly be my CC when I get the license. For now I happily sit with just my C&R license, mail ordering is fun :D.

Theres way to much variety for someone to just randomly pick and get a good weapon. Eventually they will need some advice on specifically what is good or not.
But much like buying a computer or car or house, you should decide what your needs are first then narrow down the choices.

Oh, and I dont trust gun salesmen to give me good advice when I'm completely ignorant. I always research first then go to the store and ask specific questions.

I have seen many people walk out of Nova Armament with expensive shit they didnt actually want cuz a salesman was behind on his quota.
The worst offense is high priced combat pistols for home defense when really a cheap Mossburg would do the job better. And not require quite as much training & practice.

Sig use to have a spotless reputation. I hear they hired as CEO the guy who brought Kimber's quality down, and he managed to do the same thing for Sig.

CEO's arent responsible for quality, they are responsible for profit margins.

Though I wouldnt doubt in the gun world a poor reputation directly affects the bottom line.

He still needs to pick something he likes, and not just something everyone else likes...that goes for everything in life. It's his multi hundred dollar purchase, and hopefully it's something he'll keep for a long long time.

There are HUUUGE segregation of communities on guns: "AR15s or bust" "FU AKs all the way" "OMG GLOCKS" "1911 Bitch". You'll get the same type of arguements with calibers too, it's hilarious to discuss. Best thing to do is ignore these types and just pick something that will fit your needs, fit your budget, will be reliable, and cheap enough that you can practice as much as you reasonably can.

Not sure about any history on them specifically. I just didn't like how bulky it was, how it fit my hand after shooting many other guns over a few years, and the fact that I personally couldn't shoot worth a damn with it.

Yeah, I've have long conversations with the guys at NOVA Armament, they know what they're doing and seem to be a good group of guys, but their prices on new stuff are ridiculous. But then again I haven't seen any B&M gun store that remotely competes with online for new guns, and they are a small dealer.

Yeah, I really do need to just get it. I'm going back and forth between full size or not. I think I'll get full size now, since I don't have a license, and then get a carry piece when I know more about what I like and have my license and have had time to research carry weapons.

Yeah, I would never carry something even remotely as big as an SP-101 concealed. Don't buy into the marketing terminology.
