It's also worth noting that even parkerizing has become an 'extra' on low-end 1911's...most seem to have either the black oxide finish (which can look pretty decent, at least) or some kind of polycoat a la CZ, which I think looks awful. BTW, the Cimarron also comes in Nickel, which is neat, but not as rare as the legit bluing.

IMO, while I like bluing, I don't want it on a carry gun. This is gorgeous to my eyes:

The chain link cuts instead of stippling are SO much more comfortable, too. The only place I've lost finish is right below the feed ramp, where some aluminum is showing. Finish is smooth to the touch, shows some hand oils, and durable. The grips also have a great amount of fiction from the area that is etched. Great for a carry gun.

Don't get me wrong though - my revolvers and my BHP are blued, and gorgeous. I love my model 58.

Gotta remember to pick up a few cases when it comes back down to 300 again, just in case. I wonder how those who paid .50 - .70 per round feel now.

about the same as those who bought the 70 dollar pmags and the $1k plus for the $500 AR's. Or those hwo keep paying >.10 cents for bulk 22lr.

The 22lr i could understand since many people are struggling to find it.

Rampart...details on that S&W please!

It's a .41 magnum with a 4" barrel and fixed sights (I prefer fixed sights, actually!) Honestly, .41 is better than both .357 and .44. Great gun, you just need to reload to get cheap ammo. I think it was meant for police departments, but at the time using "magnum" rounds was too easily misconstrued as excessive force.

I kinda called this. Complain enough, it won't happen.

Still, laws need to change.

I'm not sure who really thought this would be a thing. I personally was hoping they'd go through with it as it'd never stand for long before being recalled. In the meantime I could dump all my stuff at a huge profit to the idiots screaming the sky was falling and paying out the ass for stuff that would be back to normal within a couple of months. If they couldn't get the AR out of here when an idiot used it to mow down some kids they'll never get it out of here, even with backdoors.

I would absolutely get it (well, depending on what "dirt cheap" means). Even if its not shootable its a great piece of history. Honestly I'd probably be hesitant to shoot it even if a gunsmith ok'd it. Early 20th century metallurgy wasn't the greatest, at least by modern standards.

500 bucks.

In my area properly working Lugers always sell for at least 2000, sometimes 3000.

After the close of the comment period, ATF will process the comments received, further evaluate the issues raised therein, and provide additional open and transparent process (for example, through additional proposals and opportunities for comment) before proceeding with any framework.

They are at a minimum, stalling. This is not backing off.

:D

Doesn't hurt the thing is reliable as hell. I'm sure one day it'll give me some trouble, but so far...as I've said many times: no FTFs, no FTEs using Checkmate, Wilson and Tripp magazines and both JHPs and FMJs.

I occasionally think about slapping some new grips on the gun, then I look at it again and realize how nice the default ones are - and with the black etched section there, the grips are also quite functional - not too abrasive, but enough texture that a sweaty hand will have no problems. I'm sure Nighthawks and Wilson Combats are great guns...but you don't need to look that expensive to find a gorgeous well made and reliable 1911. The only gun that has a chance to replace my 1911 as a carry piece is my full size Hi Power Mk2 once I have new sights installed, new trigger, refinish, bevel magwell and such (and only because fully loaded, my full size BHP is the same weight as my aluminum 1911...while having 6 extra rounds...)

Also...that gun has sealed my absolute despise for stippling. It's just overly abrasive and uncomfortable. The chain link cut in that gun feels so much better.

Hell yes. Dan Wesson CCO is in my top 5 "To acquire" list. Hell Dan Wessons in general are the most beautiful non-custom 1911s available IMO.

The rounds are an absolute missile compared to .223. Hope to get out to the lease this weekend to begin working up a load for it.

The 58 is on my 'ToDo' list... but at the prices they are asking for nice examples (and some not so nice) I probably won't ever see one. I have a pair of .41 pistols... a 4" 57 and a Dan Wesson 6" vented, to go with my .41 Marlin 1894 lever gun. I've had a bunch of other .41's... but the two I have left are the two I'll stay with.

The .41 is certainly better than the .357, but I really think it's the equivalent to the .44... they trade blows over bullet weight and velocity and wind up in a dead heat.

I also reload for my .41's... standard fare of a cast 215grn or Remington's JSP over either Unique or W296, but my favorite is the Cast Performance 250grn cast flat nose gas checked over a wad of W296! Whooo! What a load. I do not shoot that in my cherry 57, though.... just the Dan and the Marlin.
