For best results, It's always best to use the same caliber suppressor as the host. I could always use a different piston for the 45, but the Osprey 9 should be a tad quieter and is shorter. Should just clear the sights too (It's going on a P229 and Glock 17). ;) I'm also most likely going to take all three guns to the range at the same time too, and I don't want to be swapping out pistons at the range.

Makes sense on why you'd want the 9 can then for taking both to the gun range. I usually either bring either the 9 or the 45 not both. As far as difference in sound reduction...least the video testing silencerco did, you got a like 2dB reduction using the 9mm can on a 9mm over the 45 on a 9mm. Not that im complaining id love to have a dedicated can but i have better things to spend money on, like rifle suppressors :)

Be interesting to see if your sights clear the cans though. My 226 wont and nor did any of my guns with "standard" height sights. The 45 and 9 ospreys are the same dimensions except for the 9mm being like an inch shorter

Holy shit, that silencer is $850?

Yup they arent cheap. but you shouldnt pay MSRP either. Most dealers just have to have them listed at MSRP. All of mine were ~100-200 below MSRP. Course then you have the tax stamp.

But generally it seems .22 calibers are 200-500
Pistol, up to 45 are 400-1000
Rifles, 30cal and below 700-1500
30cal and up....1-3k depending on what exactly it is. 50bmg suppressors are expensive!

Nice! You can also pay a few tens of dollars for legal software and that'll do it for ya too. Sounds like the way to go (the trust route) if you want to purchase a suppressor.

I know you can make your own trust through say quicken, but id rather have someone who knows what they are doing do it for me. My dealer did the paperwork for free, i know other dealers charge 25 bucks to do it the first time (since any other times its the same trust) so kind of a just pick whatever works best for you.

Well, the 45 is the gun I shoot and the 9's are the ones my wife shoots. :) I agree though, buying the Osprey 45 and then buying a 9mm piston would be the most cost effective solution. But like I said, there are some other nice benefits to owning dedicated cans, at least for me.

For me, any weapon I'd use indoors for home defense, I'd want to get a suppressor for it. Be it handgun, rifle or whatever.

So I'd really like to get a Garand from the CMP before they are all gone (well, for this year at least) but I'm kinda stuck between Service grade ($625, Harrington & Richardson make) and Special ($995, SA receiver, refurb). The make of the rifle doesn't matter to me; the Service grade is appealing due to the price and the fact that in theory it should be in pretty decent condition. The Special I like because it should be in excellent condition but it is more expensive. For this particular rifle, I do not care about matching parts or any of that.

What would you pick?

Humble the t-120 is the cz clone, right? That sucker looks mean. Since you have both types of handguns, do you think the slide inside the rail design is indeed more accurate? Btw, cz sp-01 > your canik. :p

Yep, slide inside the rail seems more accurate to me. Harder to grip to rack the slide, but seriously not a big deal with the canik and the scale serrations. I certainly don't have any problems.

I'll put this canik up against any CZ out there though. For damn sure. For less than half the price I'll take this canik over any "genuine" cz brand any day.

Tristar actually announced they are carrying the Piranha version of the caniks. WOOT!! They only announced the full size though and have the label, you guessed it, P-120.

Canik does the Stingray and the Piranha as the same design. The Stingray is full steel and heavy. The Piranha is the alloy frame and much lighter like the T-120 I have. So I'm going to wait until I can get my hands on a P-100 if Tristar ever gets around to importing and selling them.

Here is a reference picture for the Piranha. Could only find a big enough picture for the Stingray but they look exactly the same.

stingray_beyaz_krom.jpg

They have some SWEET looking ones though for that line. Really would like to get my hands on one of those. Here is an images for reference of the "supped" up versions.

I just ordered two of the h&r service grades. I wanted shooters more than collectors. I'll shoot one and just keep the other one. I figured for the price you can buy new refurb ones from many different place for 1k or so. Well ones that are new stock and barrels at least

Order soon. Stock is getting less and less and once they are gone they are gone.

Hmmm. I was pretty set on the Special grade but lately have been thinking about just going with the Service grade since it'll just be a shooter and I almost have the money for it from bingo and casino winnings the past month (won almost $500 in one slot pull this past weekend woot).

Fuck it, I think I'll just go with the Service. Just gotta copy my CPL and send in the paperwork. :awe:

Just added 420 rds of M855 to my stash.

Picked up 100 rds of Federal HST 180gr .40 S&W locally for $28 a box for a box of 50. Plenty of boxes of it too.

LaRue just downgraded my order from the Gen3 window mags to Gen3 regular mags and shipped them all (@ $13 a pop, giving me a refund for the difference) so I'm happy.

On a side note...I seem to have arrived at the decision that shooting bores me. I'm going to wait until ammo is cheap and I shoot a little more before I sell stuff of though...

What kind of shooting have you been doing? Ive found that if all I do is go to a range and punch holes in paper, i get bored after an hour. After a couple trips i get bored of even going. But if you go out in the woods and shoot bottles or steel or something different i find it much more enjoyable. Range time is fun but to much of it gets old and boring.

Well my mosin came. First gun bought with my C&R so pretty cool to me.

Order it from AIM. Its nothing fancy but its a 1940 Tula as far as i can tell. Matching bolt, receiver, and butt plate. The baoynet that came with it didnt match but dont really care. Biggest thing, it didnt come covered in cosmoline. Actually had very litte and most of it was between the barrel and the stock so not even noticeable till disassembly. My bolt did have some very light "rusting" on the internals but nothing a bit of hard scrubbing didnt get off.

Overall im happy! Easy to buy and glad i didnt have ot spend hours cleaning it

Whoaaaa, what?! Never thought I'd heat you say that.

Though I said something similar a while ago. :/

The few times I've been in the woods, it's been great. But it's also been a "get the friend with AWD to take us up, fire some and run before park rangers show up" because of the insanely stupid rules around I90 (and the shooting we did followed ALL their guidelines, but they still give federal tickets. So rarely do I go into the woods.

I'm bored to tears of shooting paper. Hell, I'd shoot paper at 300m right now if I could, I've never sighted my Mk14 or AR15 in properly, and would love to sight in at 100m then try at 300...but no good ranges nearby let me do that unless I either go on a waiting list, or drive more than an hour (or follow rules like 5 round magazines only, 1 round loaded only and so forth.) I think I've realized I spent somewhere around 3800 on that Mk14 (scope, stock, gun and all) and 2800 or so on the AR15 (the ACOG cost as much as the gun) and knowing that at this moment I could sell and MAKE money on that....is too enticing.

It doesn't help I want to get into astrophotography, and an Astrotrac alone to use with my D7000 is going to run me close to $1k, and a proper mount, telescope, tracking telescope and all will probably run me 2-3k when I buy it next year. I could afford it already, but....well, I'd like to own a house sometime this millennia.

I just don't see the money I put into guns being worth it. Even if I go to the woods, I shoot some and go home. I take nothing home with me, I accomplish nothing really, and at a huge cost. If I get into astrophotography, I spend as much time on it camping out at night taking shots, and I (hopefully) leave with some amazing shots of the night sky and deep field objects.

you're learning/developing a skill by shooting. at least as long as you're not just out there dumping ammo and actually trying to hit what you aim at.

Take up hunting, get some meat to bring home.

Sounds like your mk14 and ar ended up being more a hobby than something youd really use :) Ive got a couple guns in mind to do that to myself.

Shooting definitely has three parts from what ive found from most people. First, those who want to protect themselves. Be it home defense, carry, or just the ability to use it if needed. Can lump in the friends who shoot others gun group too. But these people dont seem to go shooting all that often (couple times a year type deal) and dont really invest to much time/money into it (via ammo, scopes, ect). The second group is the hobbyist. Those who enjoy shooting for fun. Go more frequently. Invest in the ammo, scopes, bipods, basically the toys to make it fun. Then the third is the serious guys. Pro type guys who shoot for a living. Be it competition or instructor types.

Nothing wrong with being in any of those categories its just what ive found to be true from my observations and experiences. Im definitely a hobbyst. I enjoy going shooting and reloading as a hobby. Spend an hour here and there making up ammo. Go shoot it. Look at scopes i want to buy. That sort of stuff.

But like any hobby can grow tired of it. And luckily gun stuff holds it value pretty damn well so if you do want to get out you can make back a good amount of money. Hell i sold a glock 20, spare barrel, and two additional mags and my "net" loss was only like 50 bucks. If id been patient and sold it on another forum or armslist i probably could have gotten closer to breaking even. Or if i had sold it two months ago i could have probably turned a profit (since the mags were worth a lot more)

Sigh... I'm starting to become fascinated with double rifles and dangerous game...

Way out of my league financially... those damn rifles are like $40,000...

I'll have to settle for a Model 70 in .375 H&H or .458 Win Mag.

Posted my P226 up to try and get a trade for an AR or .357 mag revolver. I love it but I just want more variety in my collection.

All the Academy's around here are getting flooded now with MSRs (military style rifles or modern sporting rifles depending on you pick your acronym poison). I am thinking the distributors were holding out for a long while. Either to avoid being stuck with stock or drive up prices. Not sure which is the reason, but who cares. Tons of them are in stock now. Stores that were lucky to get 1-5 per shipment are getting 10-15 every truck now. It's a bit silly how much per truck is coming in.

Well, I'm now going to sit back and relax on gun purchases. Heck, I feel as if I have enough ammo now. I can find what I need prior to any weekend outing at a range so I don't have to deplete my stock. For the guns I'm interested in, I'll wait until prices start to drop like rocks in a deep body of water.

So for now my "collecting" dollars are going back to my original collecting hobby. Blades :) Actually started getting a few knives after a deal I found. So picked up a few of those that I was interested in after some research. I still have a bunch of my swords as well. To me they are functional art work I like to have and display. Same with my guns. I guess that is why I am more attracted to guns that have a more visual appeal to them than plain parkerized finishes.
