YAGT: Finally bought my first gun

Careful on the breakdown and always follow the 4 rules. I think they fixed it with the XDM series but my XD you have to dry fire it to take the slide/barrel off.

Now learn some general firearm safety and never put your finger on the trigger unless you are going to fire it.

Good advice. Buy a gun then learn safety.

Anyways, nice gun. I'm taking my CCW this weekend and will be gun shopping shortly as well. This is one of the guns I'll be looking at.

EDIT: To clarify, I won't be using this to conceal, but would rather take the course and learn more before I purchase a gun.

:hmm:

Did they leave out the part I mentioned?

Not being an ass. Just sayin.

Just saying it wasn't on the trigger anyways you can clearly see both the trigger and the trigger safety. But yes I am very aware of the rule. The gun was brand new at the time this was taken this was the first time I took it out of the box. I checked the chamber anyways before I proceeded with pics.

You can also see the firing pin wasn't sticking out indicating that it couldn't even be dry fired.

Wow, how times have changed

I bought my first gun (single shot 410) mail order from the Sears catalog for $11.85 🙂
no permit, no background check, of course that was back in the good ole days (1966 if my memory serves me)

And I still have it and it shoots as good as the day I bought it, although I bought it for dove and quail I quickly moved up to a 16 then 12ga and the 410 has served well as a snake charmer ever since. No telling how many cottonmouths and copperheads I have dispensed with that thing

In CT you have to take a firearm safety class before you can get your permit.

That is even more scary...dude it is not a fun toy it is a firearm, take some more classes and learn how and when to use it.

Nice piece BTW....my G17 is still king in my book ...()🙂

Doesn't matter. Finger never goes in there unless sites are on target and target verified and you intend to destroy it.

2. ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
When holding a gun, rest your finger on the trigger guard or along the side of the gun. Until you are actually ready to fire, do not touch the trigger

And yeah dude, you are clearly touching the trigger.

LOL @ OP getting flamed.

I saw the first pic with his finger on the trigger and I knew what this thread would turn into.

Nice handgun, I prefer 1911 varients, but the XD/XDS are nice.

Springfield 1911 is going to be the next purcahse I think. I test fired it and really like it alot but it was more than I wanted to spend out of the gate and the 16+1 capacity of the xdm is great when you want to get alot of range time in the beginning.
