I agree that he shouldn't have his finger on the trigger in those pics. But note that many striker-fired handguns require pulling the trigger as part of the teardown procedure.

I agree with your sentiments, but be careful with those absolutes!

Most gun accidents are from an unloaded gun.

I find this hard to believe.

By holding the gun properly and having your sights on a safe target?

The reason gun safety rules are black and white is because it eliminates any chance of an accident.
If you follow the rule of NEVER putting your finger on the trigger unless it is pointed at a safe target, you will NEVER accidentally shoot someone. If you think it's fine to point it wherever you want and put your finger on the trigger because you "know" it's unloaded, then you may be wrong someday.

And you will also never clear your gun

Thats so true. People were all like GLOCK this glock that. Try the glock blah blah blah. HATED THE GLOCK once i fired it. Felt awful in my hand.

I didn't hate the Glock but definitely liked the XD better, I have an XD-9 with night sights (was my first gun) but love the look and feel of the XDm-40, nice choice.

Speaking of ammunition, the Winchester White Box (WWB) has already been mentioned but I've had no trouble out of the Federal stuff that Walmart carries. I've used it in my M&P .40 and it's been fine so far. It's usually a similar price to the Winchester and sometimes they have it when they don't have the Winchester in stock. At my Walmart, it usually goes for just under $15 for a box which is pretty much in line if not a tad cheaper than the Winchester. Just throwing out another alternative that you might look into. :)

Question: What ammo brand(s) should I stay away from?

EDIT: for range use not self defense.
I like the information found here.

http://www.chuckhawks.com/ammo_by_anonymous.htm

Now, I have to say that I really don't know if this information is good or up to date, so keep that in mind. Like I said, I have a 9mm and there is a wealth of information in the article concerning that.

You may find this helpful too.

http://www.internetarmory.com/handgunammo.htm

It explains some of the nomenclature for ammunition. I was rather in the dark concerning that and it helped me a lot.

imho, unless the firearm is custom/semi-custom/accurized/specialty unit, it should fire anything you throw at it from high quality all the way down to low quality wolf/brown bear stuff.

there is a place for the tighter chambers of an accurized firearm but defense isn't one of them (for the average person), especially considering that the avg encounter you will come into (if you are so unlucky to actually have use your firearm) is ~21' or less.

aside from additional cleaning, i would buy a box of everything and make sure it works good w/ it all. this is a workhorse, not a collector/specialty weapon.

you guys are too funny.

I don't think anyone's trying to be funny. They're trying to teach someone who apparently lacks respect for the weapon a lesson that might save someone - maybe even you - serious injury.

And you're blowing it off.

guns are toys! Noone has ever thought theirs was unloaded, yet contained a round in the chamber!
