Most gun accidents are from an unloaded gun.

I figure they are from Pheasant hunts when some yahoo shoots at the blockers in excitement. Unloaded guns have a hard time shooting. All guns should be treated as if loaded though.

I think he was referring to the "oops I didn't know it was loaded" accidents. not literally unloaded.

Slim keep in mind if you have the new weapon in your car and are stopped for any violation and have any kind of unlaw substance in your car , you can be charged for unlawful weapon charges, least in Louisiana, and in many other states I'm sure.

Anybody else linking to this on other firearm sites? Could be epic.

a bunch of people being assholes about the trigger finger will never turn this thread epic. unless he suddenly posts a pic of the hole he accidentally shot in his wall/ tv/ little brother

I love my Glock 23. Glocks are an acquired taste for most. My brother carries that and when his department upgraded from .40's to .45's I had the chance to pick up either a 22 or the 23 the detectives carried. The 23 fit better. Got it and three magazines for $285. In as close to new condition as if it were out of the box. Couldn't argue with that. Oh, and a paddle holster that retails for $50 was thrown in.

My buddy bought the XDm and I shot it the other day. I gotta say, that until then, I hadn't really shot another .40 that I liked better than mine. It's a sweet ass gun.

As for you getting a Mossberg, I'd suggest the Persuader. Picked mine up new for $225 at a local gun show. Just got an ATI folding stock for it on my birthday. LOVE this gun.

GET YOUR FUCKING FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER
- DO NOT PUT YOUR FINGER ON THE TRIGGER OUR IN THE TRIGGER GUARD AREA UNTIL YOU ARE PREPARED TO SHOOT - POINTING AT WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO BE SHOOTING AT!!!!!!!!:twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted:

TAKE A FIREARMS SAFETY COURSE - YOU FAIL IN 50% OF THE POSTED PICS AND WITH FIREARMS, YOU CAN'T FAIL!!!!

Way to go overboard. IF the gun isn't loaded, there's nothing wrong with putting your finger on the trigger. Besides, how else are you supposed to dry fire?

look at the direction of the brl too....besides, this was a photo hold, not a dry fire drill so keep your fingers off the trigger still applies

By holding the gun properly and having your sights on a safe target?

The reason gun safety rules are black and white is because it eliminates any chance of an accident.
If you follow the rule of NEVER putting your finger on the trigger unless it is pointed at a safe target, you will NEVER accidentally shoot someone. If you think it's fine to point it wherever you want and put your finger on the trigger because you "know" it's unloaded, then you may be wrong someday.

There's a difference between thinking it's unloaded and checking every time you handle the gun. I always check my firearms before handling them. That way I do KNOW that it's unloaded, not just think it's unloaded.

I bought my XDM 40 when they first came out… nice handgun. Although I had shot a lot with a 45 in the Army my wife never had. With her being in the house with the gun the first thing I did was sign her up for a class. I could have taught her but thought it would be better for her to hear it/learn from someone else. Now she ends up taking it to the range more than me. The good thing is both of us in the house know how to use it.

Call me old fashioned, but I check every time and will only hand the weapon to somebody else fully unloaded, cleared and checked, action open.

I don't see it. If the gun is unloaded, he can't fucking accidentally shoot the someone or himself. So keeping his finger away from the trigger isn't going to matter.

If he was handling it that way while loaded, then I totally agree.

so many people get shot w/ "unloaded" every year because idiots don't respect what a projectile traveling 1000fps+ can do when coming in contact w/ a human being. you have to just know not to put your finger on the trigger unless you intend to use it, plain and simple - learn it, live it and it becomes muscle memory - at this point w/ the ops first gun, he is off to a bad start because when you pick up a firearm your finger needs to not go into the trigger area automatically. it takes the way of accidents that shouldn't have happend when somebody fucks up. gun ownership is a responsibility and in the pics the op has shown total lack of respect for the firearm.

if you are going to dry fire, you clear it, check again, then when you do dry fire it is in a safe direction, not just pointing anywhere. w/ gun ownership and safety you have to be right 100% of the time, so you always treat the gun as loaded regardless of the state you know it to be in last - you still check it again.

Exactly. You should always do that so that the person receiving the gun knows its unloaded

And to check for themselves (as they also should) if they aren't familiar with the action. That goes along with the "always loaded, unless you clear and check yourself".

Now learn some general firearm safety and never put your finger on the trigger unless you are going to fire it.

If he legally bought that gun in Connecticut, Slim would have needed to take a pistol safety course to get his pistol permit first. He's also getting raped by permit fees... It's $70 to renew it every five years. Ah... the joys of living in a "Blue State" ;)
