I really like them both but I have to lean towards the new mustang...The GT and cobra look sweet.

After owning an RX-8, but traded due to problems I'd probably still choose the RX-8 over the Stang. Handling will be much better, styling inside and out is way better (subjective I know), it's more practical and would probably be safer in the event of an accident. I would certainly look at a new 05 RX-8 or perhaps left over 04, not a used one though, especially an early build date. From what I can tell most of the major issues have been resolved with the 05. Also, you never know what retard had it before you and whether it was flooded. MPG sucks on the 8 though, especially for city driving. My 05 Titan with a 5.6 liter V8 moving over 2 tons of mass gets better city mileage than my RX-8 did over 18k miles. It's a fun car though, but don't expect a lot of power without spending lots of $$$ for mods.

Also, if you buy an RX-8, take the time to learn about the car and read the manual. Be aware that you will have to employ some anti-flooding techniques (mostly warming up the car before short trips or taking the long way to reach normal operating temps before shutoff), especially if you live where it gets cold in the winter. This will also make your MPG even worse (I generally got 10mpg during the winter time on city driving).

I duno. I've been dusting stock 05 GT's in my stock RX8 so far. I've dusted a stock 03 Mach 1 as well with no problem. It's easy, rev the engine to engange the clutch in first at 7K RPMS or there abouts. You take off faster then any mustang without mods.

The RX8 also has available turbos and supers already and a few other little toys to pus some HP. I haven't done much looking but I'm sure you can get someone that has a nitrus bottle hooked up with Greedy's turbo charger.

Is it a Lotus Esprit? no.. but then again, neither is a mustang.

Will an RX8 dust a mustang if it isn't driven by a retard? Yep. Just don't let others know this or they might get pony envy.

that being said, both cars are fine cars. I had a hard time deciding myself but for me, I like the look of the RX8 over the 05 stangs. Asthetics are definately a good enough reason to chose one over the other. If you like the mustand looks over the RX8, then go for that or vice versa.

I'm driving a rental Mustang for a couple of days. Lovin' it and it's not even the GT. Not very comfortable though.

I like the '05 convertibles..I'd go for the Mustang. Supercharger would be nice, though.

I think it could be a lot worse... my only complaint is that the bolsters aren't big enough to keep me from needing to hold the frame as I slide around...

Convertible Stang hands down!

If you ever rode in a convertible you know they are more fun to drive. I love having the top down in the spring and fall. No need for A/C . Convertible mustangs look really nice with a "roll bar" added, makes a huge difference and gives it a sportier look.

Mustangs are easier to work on too. The aftermarket for stuff is almost limitless for Mustangs. They have numerous magazines dedicated to mustangs. They have an amazing history and heritage.

The RX-8's are cool, but overpriced. Mustangs overall give more bang for your buck, especially when it comes to horsepower, and its easy as hell to pump them up. I also love the deep rumble sound of a throaty V-8 compared to an imports high pitched japanese bike sound.

The new mustangs have recieved so much praise for thier quality, style and performance. Haven't seen the RX-8 get as much publicity or endorsements as the new mustangs.

Wow that's a toughie but I went with the RX-8. I really like how the 05 Mustangs look but I think the RX-8 would be the more fun(subjective) ride.

neither - don't like the mustang and the rx-8 is an underpowered oil burning machine. go with something else...

That's a no brainer. Mustang GT Vert. It's much faster than the Mazda and it doesn't look like ass like the Mazda does.

3) the 05 Mustang is needlessly heavy

nah, not really, its 3400lbs, not too bad for a pony car. the Charger and GTO is 4000 and 3600 respectively. the new BMW 330 is 3400 too.

the WS6 weighed 3200 LBS, had a 6 speed and put out OVER 350HP stock. The new mustang is a disgrace compared to the last F-bodies.

Try 3500lbs.

I have a question then. Assuming the Mustang GT goes for about 27k right now, how much do you think I can get a used Mustang GT for in say 3-6 months? (After the 06 mustang comes out?)

RX8 will do 0-60mph in about 6 seconds. The '05 Mustang GT will do 0-60mph in about 5 seconds. There is no fvcking way an RX8 would dust a Mustang GT.

regardless, 3500 or 3200, the previous F-bodies are FAST and CHEAP. Ford's 4.6L just cannot compare.

oooo thats a tough call, i love both cars... i heard from my brother that the rx8 didnt shift as smoothly as some other cars, so i'd probably go with the GT (plus there's nothin like a nice big v8!)

RX8

0-60mph: 6 seconds
1/4 mile: 14.5 @ 95.6mph

Mustang GT Convertible

0-60mph: 5.2 seconds (coupe does it in 5.1 seconds)
1/4 miles: 13.8 @ 100.9mph

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the Mustang GT could stomp the RX8 assuming equal drivers.
