THIS. For me it was a toss up between top of the line Android 3.0 tabs and the Playbook. But after seeing this price - not anymore. The Playbook is my top choice to get now. Just hope its' as good as they say...

Same here. I was looking forward to Honeycomb but with prices like this it's difficult to justify. I would say most people that don't like Apple would consider the iPad overpriced if anything so trying to sell those people an even more expesive tablet seems foolish.

At this point to compete with the iPad is you need to offer a quality tablet that's the same price or cheaper. It's a shame that RIM seems to be the only company that understands that.

I also kinda hope there's a 10" Blackberry Playbook, but if there's not that won't stop me from getting one.
 
how much is a playbook supposed to be, it may be almost as much. once you see the specs on ipad 2 99&#37; of tablet buyers will get that

RIM said the wifi version will start under $500.

Apple doesn't have many options to top the playbook on specs, it has a dual core Cortex A9 processor with 1gb of ram and a great gpu.

From what we've been shown so far the PlayBook has that covered and then some. There's a new video i=of it running four OpenGL apps at once in real time, shader tests, general rendering and Quake 3 Arena while switching between them all. Not even my desktop computer can do that.

I'm very interested in the Playbook, as well as whatever webOS tablet comes out of HP. If the Wifi Xoom or comparable Honeycomb tablet can hit the $399-$499 price point, I'd consider those as well. But @ $799 + 3g data package, there's zero chance of me bringing one home.
 
I don't really know how great of a laptop this is, but this came up in like two seconds worth of searching at newegg.com.

At 6lbs, and you can't use your finger it's obviously worse than the Xoom, right?

I'm really beginning to think these things are sheer status symbols. Hey look I payed 3x what a netbook costs, and got about the same power, but I can use my fingers!

Yeah on the notebook you got me there. My netbook can get around four hours when I'm writing. My laptop, not so much. I'm just ranting and whining, cause I kind of want one, but don't want to pay $799. 😉

But it should be able to do those same things with similar battery life. If it has 2 hours of battery life, it would be a pain to carry and have to recharge throughout the day.
 
What I'd LIKE to see in tablets is true "standalone" GPS. By that I mean not that Pseudo - tracks - you - through - the - cell - towers - like - a - tagged - animal - GPS.

I really don't think you understand the target market.

Anyways 90&#37; of the public use their computers to compose email and surf the web.
A laptop offers no advantage in doing those tasks.

Of course it does, there's tons of Flash content out there that'll run perfectly fine on that laptop that wouldn't run fine on a tablet. That's just one example.

Why are we comparing laptops to tablets? A Core i5 is several times more powerful than an ARM SoC. A laptop has totally different uses than a tablet. Why people still mash these two together is beyond me.

The 3G iPads have standalone GPS, Navigon & others have software for it too...

flash is on a decline. I dont have an iPad anymore, but when i did have it I barely missed flash. Flash is not being adopted by more websites, it is being dropped by them. Its not on an uptick when it comes to usage.

We've already talked about this many times, there's still THOUSANDS of Flash only sites. We've even had people here comment on trying to see the menu of a restaurant that was only in Flash. It's definitely an up-tick when it comes to usage seeing as with Flash you can actually see the entire web and without it you simply can't. Don't like it, disable it, run into a Flash only site you want to see, enable it. Choice really is a swell thing. I don't see how in any way shape or form, the option to be able to use the entire internet is a bad thing.
