Xoom $799?

No, that's right, that's the way the Galaxy Tabs are sold. You cant even use one without activating it with a data plan.

So you have to add $20 + taxes and fees for the first month's data plan, and another $35 for activation (they bury that in the bill of the first month of Galaxy Tab plans)

So you're looking @ $950 for the first month of ownership.

I think Verizon is purposely killing Moto's tablet because of the iPhone 4. Their contract with Moto must allow Verizon to set the price, that's why Sanjay said they would be in trouble this year during Moto's last quarterly reports.

Between this and the pricing on the Atrix, I wonder what the heck will happen to Moto over the next year, this doesn't look good at all for them.

Verizon sells a 32GB iPad and a MiFi for $629 on their website.

is that really true--galaxy tab wont even work without being activated, so you cant use wifi. even my android phone does wifi without being activated.if thats true screw these wireless providers

They just keep shooting themselves in the foot with the pricing. I just don't understand what the hell they keep thinking.

Apple uses the same hardware across its entire consumer electronics line.
Apple made investments in screen, chip, and memory technology.

They simply cannot compete with Apple.
Its as simple as that.

For $800 i think i rather have an ipad, i mean this thing will probably come loaded with bloatware from the carriers even at this price then it probably will never receive an update unlike apple. It seems to me apple is doing a few things better than android because currently the android slogan is "want the new version? buy a new phone"

After seeing the Xoom hands on reports, I was beginning to regret my Nook Color purchase.

After seeing the Best Buy ad with the $799 price and wi-fi bullshit, my Nook Color purchase looks brilliant especially with the XDA community making major strides with Honeycomb using a pre-release version before the code is released.

Of course! Samsung released their 7 inch tablet at an inflated price because they don't have access to screen's, cpu's and memory...

Yes, because 3GS owners had a very smooth time upgrading to the iOS4.

Hopefully it's an early adopters fee.

BUMP!

Again, Daily Tech is late but it looks to be good confirmation.
This sucker will cost 800 bucks and you cant do a damn thing without paying for a data plan.
Expect it to be rooted the evening it comes out.

Me?
I'll buy it a year from now for 300 bucks and I bet it will already be unlocked. If not, rooting will be a common procedure.

id wager this is all VZW being asinine again and not really motos fault. well other then signing that agreement that lets VZ do what they want

I really don't understand WTF they are thinking with the pricing. The tablet looks drool-worthy, no doubt, but someone doesn't get it IMO.

This is going to be a complete and utter failure serving as more ammo for iOS fans. Nice hardware with what looks to be a nice OS update but the pricing is insane. The price may be competitive with the iPad but they can't charge the same as an iPad, they have to undercut it. The general population isn't going to pay the same price for Android and Motorola as they will for an iPad. You would think they would have figured that out by now but they will have to suffer a sales defeat to get that point.

I thought this was pretty cool when I heard about it during the CES previews, but $800? Holy shit, I'll buy an iPad 3G or 2 iPad Wi-fis for that much, and happily show off the Apple emblem; fashion has a tangible price.

Hope RIM doesn't screw up the Playbook. Got my eyes set on that, but if the shit hits the fan, I wouldn't mind an iPad.

Apparently neither the accountants nor the marketers at Motorola realize that it's total suicide to price your product higher than your generally well-regarded competition no matter how much of an improvement it may be.

Here's hoping the other tablet makers don't screw up their pricing this badly.

Upgrading my 3GS to iOS4 was a snap for me.

I don't understand why theres only one model. They can't make a $600 version alongside the $800 premium?

It's gonna suck when Apple releases the iPad 2 which has pretty much the same specs and still at that $500 price point for wifi only.

There's a wi-fi only model coming in March but by then the damage will have been done and the Xoom will be viewed as the overpriced tablet if the price rumors are true.

Sounds like Verizon tax to me. Motorola is so Verizon dependent that Verizon can dictate Motorola no-contract pricing to channel people into signing up for a data plan.

Looks increasingly likely like there will either be an iPad 2, PlayBook, or webOS tablet in my future.

RIM has confirmed that the PlayBook price will be <= to the iPad for the same storage size (e.g. WiFi PlayBook 16GB <= WiFi iPad 16GB $499).

Apple A4 - Co developed with and manufactured by Samsung
Nand Flash in iDevices- designed and manufactured by Samsung
Retina display- H-IPS(?) display from LG

Sounds like Samsung and Lg are the ones investing in technology and Apple is simply making smart purchasing decisions.
