$600 seems workable to me if it's on par with the iPad in terms of responsiveness and has similar to better features. I'll judge if I think it's worth $600 when I play with one at Best Buy when they get them.

$800 seemed a stretch, $1200 was ludicruous.

The iPad seemed stupid and overpriced to me when I first heard about it, but once I tried one in a store, I really liked it and now I use it more than my desktop for surfing and reading at nights. $500 seemed like a lot, but given how often I use mine, I end up wishing I'd at least paid for the GPS option (WiFi version has no GPS).

Your thoughts mirror mine. $600 wifi version works for me if this tablet delivers the good. I don't need the cell radio as I always have my phone and can tether. I don't need GPS as I'm used to having bad GPS (Galaxy S :)) I really hope this tablet is available online like Amazon, Buy.com, Newegg, etc so I can avoid the sales tax. It's likely Zoom or Playbook for me but if Zoom is great, I'll get that instead of waiting for the Playbook. My wife is definitely getting iPad 2 so my daughter will get the old iPad which should make her happy. I might actually have to go into Best Buy store to try out the Zoom. I haven't been inside Best Buy in over 5+ years.

I have 4G hotspot on my EVO so for $600 I might get this. I wish there was a 16gb version for $500.

My iPad will promptly go on Ebay where due an odd Apple/Ebay effect, it will probably sell for about what I paid for it... essentially resulting in me "renting" an iPad for a year for free...

Yeah, I agree. Give me an SD card slot and it can have 8GB. :)

I wonder if the WiFi version of the Xoom will have a GPS chip...

I sure hope so. I was really annoyed when I found out the iPad WiFi version didn't have it. Especially since Apple's webpage was unclear on the issue.

I don't get why they don't offer a 16GB $500 version. It is going to cost them a lot of sales to the iPad. In general joe six pack and susie soccer mom look at the lowest price. Sure, they are comparable at that memory level but a lot, if not most, don't need 32GB's. It's a tablet, not a notebook. I'm just waiting for the iPad 2 to come out so I can pick up an iPad 1 when everyone starts dumping them. I have absolutely no use for one but just want one to play with. I can't justify $500 for a toy.

Don't ignore "the iPod factor" either...

Remember when the Pod came out? Every mp3 player became an iPod in the public's mind. Tablets are iPads at the moment, and Apple will have a cheaper tablet, "The iPad" in the same store, cheaper...

I use my nook color, and get asked, is that an iPad? Hell, it doesn't even look like an iPad to me, but these other tablets all do look almost exactly like an iPad.

Engadget says it's just a placeholder price.

http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/13/motorola-xoom-up-for-pre-order-at-best-buy-for-1-199/

Personally I think for it to make good headway, it's going to HAVE to be dished out with some serious deals at the $800 price point. Like most everyone else has said, to start taking away a significant chunk of the tablet market, it's going to have to perform equal to an iPad and ideally cost less. I want a tablet, but I'm still waiting on the iPad 2 and the other tablets (Android/WebOS) to come out before I really make a decision. Hopefully by then if the Xoom is still near the top, hopefully it's price will have come down.

If thats true then Best Buy may be in a world of shit with Motorola, cuz they just screwed them over. How many people are going to see that price and immediately dismiss the Xoom? First impressions matter a lot in the gadget industry. You turn people off in a major way its unlikely they will come back for a second serving. Both BB and Moto should be well aware of this.

Endgadget explicitly called out that fact that the WiFi version did have a GPS chip. If it does and it works without wifi (yea that's the whole point of a GPS chip :) ) I'll probably bite at $600. A bit depends when it becomes available and competition. After all there is also the Galaxy tab 10 and LG.

I wonder if the WiFi version of the Xoom will have a GPS chip...

Are there good mapping programs for Android that use stored data instead of wireless data connection.

Hang on, you're posting opinion as fact. None of those 'facts' are true. If they are, link to the related research.

but it honestly is. a lot of sites used to use flash for everything. it was the coolest thing to have a flash webpage with a flash menu and even the graphics are flash.

come on. in 2002-2004 i was in the search for multiple hosting companies. so many hosting companies used templates like that. Like you NEEDED flash to navigate website

it's on the decline now. i mean if you can't CSS and JS some useful stuff together, your website is pretty much trash if you need a flash everything. i'm not a web developer, but i can tell you from watching my friends work and stuff and from what they see, flash is definitely on the decline.

Yup, we just had a big thread on this in the Phone forum a few weeks ago. Some are paid, some are free, but there are a couple good offline maps options. In fact the new update to Google Maps was supposed to allow this. I dont think you could download the regions but it would remember common routes and start keeping them on its own.
People are still waiting for an option to use their phone like a stand alone GPS though, at least with free Google Maps.

Available for pre order in store starting today.

I'm going to pass for now, the prices need to come down and I really don't want another data subscription. Maybe if they evr release a WiFi version, but I suspect I'll be using HC on my color nook instead...

Moto should have released Wifi version at the same time. I don't see monthly data sub and $800 flying with the Android crowd. All early buyers of this device will know how to root and tether with their Android phones. Slow early sales could erase any momentum for this tablet. Maybe VZ forced Moto to release 3g version first with couple of months of exclusivity. Quarter is a long time to wait in the mobile tech world.

Yeah, public perception is really funny that way. I've had people ask if my Kindle was an iPad, and then say "I thought those came in color"

AAAnnnnddd, no Flash till "spring"

WTF MOTO?

No 4G, no Flash...

I really don't like devices that are shipped without all the features and a promise to add them at a later date. For instance, will the 4G upgrade require a more expensive data plan?

I've also heard some concerns about battery life.

Can't wait for the hands on reviews, I really hope Anand does one, they're awesome, and cut through the hype pretty effectively....

Meh, more anecdotal evidence posted as fact. D:

Yea it doesn't sound revolutionary or anything. Sure it's cool but still nothing that makes me need a tablet.

Their review really makes me feel like honeycomb isn't quite ready yet. The fact that there's really no apps in the market is a huge downside for me. I'll wait and see what happens once these get into actual user's hands and developers get some apps out there.

Well, Anand likes the Xoom, I just wish the LCD was as good as the iPad. According to his pics, in comparison it looks like crap.
