Ah cool, yeah service plans are getting tempting these days. I may start getting them one day.

Yeah, they still piss me off. If a product needs an extra warranty, it's not ready. The only reason I did it this time around is because I was already stuck with a 360, so I figured I might as well be stuck with one that works.

If I could go back in time, though, I'd simply not buy the 360 in the first place. I know of more people who've had problems with it than people who haven't. They are literally croaking left and right.

People are saying the PS3 and 360 are equal as far as capabilities go, but I wonder how hot (or cool) the PS3 will operate... Microsoft can have all the killer apps in the world, but if people fear the 360 and have other options, they just might spend a little extra on the PS3 (that's assuming it's reliable when it's released).

Funny that you say that. Someone PM'ed me and asked why I was being so secretive about what I did. I simply told him that it was because no matter what I said, I'd either be made out to be a thief or made out to be a liar.

The fact is that a lot of you thrive on being self-righteous dickheads, so it's a lose/lose situation. Again, the real point of the thread was just to vent about the 360's current state of affairs, not how I was going to right my situation.

I've been paying REAL close attention to my new 360, and the problem is simply that it flat out does not move air. Case closed. Even when booting to the dashboard, it gets hot as hell inside that box after just a few minutes. The air just sits in there, stagnant. I'd rather have twice the footprint and another fan if that meant better reliability.

Your Xbox freezing during Splinter cell has NOTHING to do with your 360 failing. It is the splinter cell game. Hit up xbox.com forums and read up on that. The game has a lot of bugs, that being one of them.
Mine was freezing during splinter cell, but does not freeze during any other game except for back when oblivion first came out it froze a few times during loading

GOOD. This is exactly what happened to my Xbox 360. After this thread had already died, I researched at length the symptoms surrounding my busted console, and given those symptoms and the date it occurred, it was obvious that it was the fall update that killed my system.

meh i can't complain. when mine broke, they fixed it for free since they extended the warranties to a year when purchased in 2005.

but i agree that 360's are/were poorly made.

Did you ever contact MS about this? Supposedly if you tell them that the update bricked your system then they'll replace it whether it is in warranty or not.

I remember my launch 360 died after the very first mandatory update they did previous to the Spring Update. Even though it was out of warranty MS replaced it free of charge since it occurred after their firmware upgrade.

I never contacted them about it because I was able to swap my system out, but a lot of people were told to climb a tree when this first happened. They need to be a lot more cautious about releasing updates that intentionally destroy systems. I understand they wanted to break hacked boxes, but they need to be damned sure that it accurately targets ONLY modded systems.

That's a pretty common mistake from the people that do ads. They take a picture of a 360 turned on but the A/V cord isn't hooked up so you get all 4 rings. 3 rings would be the ring of death.

you sound like a whiner now. and trust me, the update didn't do crap to modded systems.

so instead of contacting MS and having them try to resolve an issue with your xbox360 and let them know about the problem, you instead commit fraud and do a swap? and you are proud of yourself and think you are the man?

Blow me. I didn't commit fraud. You're just assuming I did. Two, it's not whining when you get raped out of $400. Third, this is about the lawsuit now... not what I did to correct my specific situation.
