I'm pretty sure there's a sleep timer somewhere in the settings, can't say ATM as I'm at work. 😛

yup I believe it's in the setup section. will turn off after x hours of inactivity.
 
I updated my version of XBMC a couple months ago and it was a completely different experience from the version I used previously. Awesome piece of software.

I also got a 360 recently, and the interface for playing music on the 360 is horrible in comparison to any version of XBMC. So much so that I am thinking of setting up my modded xbox to my TV and receiver again for XBMC alone.

Well therein lies my issue. I found that last night but if you put in a dvd. Xbmc never sees it as being inactive. Even after the movie is over. So the xbox stays on all night.

I loved mine. I recently got a 360, so my old Xbox is sitting in a box in the closet 🙁

I can't wait until people start hacking the 360.
 
I just installed the BlingBling release of XBMC yesterday on my old Xbox. All I can say is "Wow!" The default GUI is fantastic and the software seems to be quite stable! Much to my surprise everything worked right out of the box, though I need to do some tweaking to get rid of things I don't use. The tweak freak in me loves the sheer amount of things you can customize in XBMC.

My one question about it: How well does streaming video over a wireless internet connection work? If your XBMC is wireless, what are you using--the official Xbox wireless adapter or something else? Any advice would be much appreciated. I'm going to test my wireless connection using ICS with my laptop tonight, but obviously that's not an ideal solution.

I've never been able to get this skin to work on my setup. The highlight bars never show up and the font goes black (against a black background).

I'm currently using the Clearity beta skin, which is one of the nicest GUIs I've seen. A little buggy at times, but the eye candy is worth it.

you have to set your computer to have a static IP
you then have to share each folder with a unique name
then under f:\\apps\XBMC\UserData you need to edit sources.xml
there will be a heading for each menu item (My Music, My Videos, ect)
the bookmark should be something to the effect
<bookmark>
<title>My U2 Music</title> <----not sure on this one, but you can look at the existing bookmarks
<path> smb://192.168.0.25/U2 music</path> (U2 Music being the name of the shared folder)
</bookmark>

my syntax is probably wrong cause i dont remember off the top of my head, but again you can look at the code and edit it.

hrmmm i never use my xbox anymore..i should do this..

is it tricky? I am no good with soldering so i would want to do a soft mod. Is the soft mod just as effective as a chip?

How big is the xbox harddrive and can any harddrive replace it?
If i replace the hard drive do i need a chip or will the softmode work.

And no it's easy as pie to put in your own HDD of any size, install the software, and get it running.

larger HDD with a softmod isnt as easy as would think. if you are just doing it for XBMC, then soft mod, leave the original HDD in, and use network shares. I have 3 xboxs setup this way, and if you look at my sig, i plan on doing more
