Finally got around to getting my Xbox back online, reformatted it, and bumped up to XBMC 2.0.

This totally rocks, I fergot how kickass XBMC is, for a $100 (or less) xbox, WELL worth it.

I just installed XBMCsirius, gives you the ability to stream the Sirius internet feed right to the Xbox, and with the upgraded Sirius stream, it sounds AWESOME on my HT system...

I love the newest XBMC as well, but the Sirius script hasn't worked for me the few times I've tried it.

I just installed the sirius script for the first time, looks like the latest release is about 3 months old.

It takes a good 20-25 seconds before the stream starts (its caching), but once it does it works great.

I really hope they get a script for Pandora to work w/ XMBC. That's about the only thing missing from my perfect version of XBMC.

Haha, finnaly I see a post about XBMC, and I can agree....it is awesome. I downloaded a "XBMC 2.0 megapack" with a ton of scripts and stuff built in, and it is so awesome (Ill have to check out this Sirius thing you speak of :p). The one I have came with stuff like Youtube (search/watch any video on youtube), Launch (same thing for music videos), weather center (goes by your zip code), CNN (shows news stories from the web)...the list goes on. It is amazing what things from the internet can do when viewed from an xbox :p (Always get the WOW factor when I put a youtube video on it).

Is the Sirius thing free? Or do you have to have a subscription?

I think you can upgrade by just writing over the last version you had, don't quote me on that as i needed a reformat, so i started over w/ Slayers autoinstall again.

Sirius normally streams at 32k (which SUCKS), but for $3/mo extra you can the upgraded streams (64k on the talk and 128k on the Music channels)

I ftp to the xbox - rename the old XBMC folder and ftp the updated files - once I know the new version works I delete the old folder.

That's what I did as well....only nowadays when I try to upload a whole new XBMC Folder, my FTP program crashes, bringing my entire computer down with it....very weird stuff

It's not that bad, given the amount of tutorials, guides, and help available on the net.

Having said that, I think the best solution is just pick one one used off the FS/FT forum. Modded Xboxes are popping up more frequently due to the switch to newer consoles, and you could probably get an Xbox with a 120GB HD, 2 controllers, and cables for $160-$170.

That's what I did back in February (mine was $200). Granted, I was only 4 years late to the Xbox party, but there's soooo much more to a modded Xbox than XBMC. XBMC is the crowning feature, IMHO, but you've got tons of emulators and ability to run games off the HD.

PS3? Xbox360? Wii? .....suckers! I've got a modded Xbox! ;)

I couldn't agree more....while I must admit, the graphics on 360 games are amazing, the modded xbox is simply amazing. Once i finish my hidef projector and hook up the xbox hidef kit to it, getting it running in 720p...it's gonna be gold! Until then, however, im stuck with a bad image (RCA to VGA, image blurry as heck due to the stretch :p)

I  XBMC. It's beautiful. I still have to setup a wireless bridge again so I can stream music and video to my xbox, but for now fast loading times from games stored on HDD and emulated games. It's just too awesome. The XBMC 2.0 is so much better, the DVD menu system was fixed and everything is awesome. I'm running the Xbox360 skin and the blades are just too cool.

I softmodded my Xbox a couple weeks ago. XBMC is the best thing to happen to it aside from softmodding. :) It's rather nice to have all my audio/video on my file server able to be streamed to my Xbox and watchable on my TV instead of a monitor. And the emulators are pretty neat and hilarious. Using a 2001 game console to play games that are around 20 years old. I just find that highly amusing. :D What I really like about the softmod setup is you can do it so you can still use Live if you want to.

A company came out with a wireless adapter for it, but not what you think. It's not like, 802.1x wireless, its basically 2 little modules w/ cat-5 ports on them. One sits by your router, the other by your xbox. Has a few 100 ft Radius I believe, and the two modules communicate, like walkie-talkies I guess...nothing to setup. *shrug* might be something to look into

Will a modded xbox take a drive larger than 120G? I've been pondering getting one as a music server, but I want to get EVERYTHING I own on it, which is ~110G or so. I'd feel much better about it if there was a little additional breathing room.

If not, can it access network storage? That'd be just fine, too.

Woot had the Logitech ones for $20-$25

Since I already had a Belkin wireless router that supports bridging, I picked up the identical router off Ebay and use it as a wireless game adapter for the Xbox. Not bad for a total cost of $30, considering some of the dedicated wireless adapters are $60+ and seem to be flaky at best.

There is a way to softmod a 120GB+ HDD in the Xbox, should be on the xbox-hq.com forums. And yes, XBMC can access network shares via Samba. Works just fine with my NTFS formatted server.
