AppleTV - for Xbox :)

I've never been able to get this skin to work on my setup. The highlight bars never show up and the font goes black (against a black background).

I'm currently using the Clearity beta skin, which is one of the nicest GUIs I've seen. A little buggy at times, but the eye candy is worth it.

Ooh nice, hadn't seen that one before. That would look good on a flatscreen. Yeah I am going to wait until the xTV skin comes out of beta before trying it. I was really excited to use MC360 when I first got into XBMC, but I found I really, really liked the default PMIII skin. It looks & acts much nicer than the screenshots make it look.

is it tricky? I am no good with soldering so i would want to do a soft mod. Is the soft mod just as effective as a chip?

How big is the xbox harddrive and can any harddrive replace it?
If i replace the hard drive do i need a chip or will the softmode work.

www.xbox-scene.com

that'll answer all the questions you have :)

And no it's easy as pie to put in your own HDD of any size, install the software, and get it running.

Modding it is simple too. It's almost as easy as the PSX was to mod. Softmod is even easier I think, I just personally prefer chips.

larger HDD with a softmod isnt as easy as would think. if you are just doing it for XBMC, then soft mod, leave the original HDD in, and use network shares. I have 3 xboxs setup this way, and if you look at my sig, i plan on doing more

what are the other reasons other then xbmc. I thought xbmc was the whole package

Been considering getting AppleTV or the 360 for media center functionality being I am getting a new HDTV. Screw it, XBMC is the best, even though it can only do 720p (upscaled).

You can do Linux on an Xbox if you want a cheap file server; I believe you need a modchip for that though. I've never actually met anyone who has used an Xbox for this purpose tho...most people I know who have an Xbox have XBMC on it. Mmm, XBMC...

Ya, a little known innovation but well known the the xbox'ers. Loved the ability to record mp3s from streams, including id3 tags.

Where can I get a cheap used Xbox? I think $99 used from EBGames is a bit much, and ebay isn't any better.....

Just check the FS/FT fourm, you can sometimes find a chip moded xbox with a large HDD and set up and ready to go for around $125-$150

Just keep your eyes open and check places like craigslist as well. I bought my most recent xbox on craigslist for $35 and was able to softmod it in 20 minutes.

NICE! I thought you had to do a whole take-over install. Gotta try that sometime :D

That's precisely what I did--turned an Xbox that was worthless to me as a game system into a media streamer that kicks the 360's butt all over the place.

From what I gather, a softmod is fine if you don't plan on playing games on Xbox Live. I used the ProductWiki instructions to do mine and it worked perfectly.

XBOX1 is the best damn console EVAR!
mainly due to the scene support for it like XBMC and emulators :)

i got the latest build, and saw the YouTube link in XBMC marketplace. my jaw dropped to the floor and I had to pick it up.

simply awesome

I want to do this it looks so bad ass....

It looks complicated to do a softmod tho..

I would deff want to put in a new hard drive and i would prob screw it up.

So to do XBMC you need to install something like an OS where you can install things like XMBC and other programs.

Think of a dashboard as an OS, and XBMC as an application. Once you get the Evox dashboard installed via the softmod, you can install XBMC to load up automatically if you choose.

ah i c. All I have is a laptop and a harddrive..but i want to make sure there isnt anything I might want thats still on it so need a USB to IDE thingy.

The community makes this all really confusing cause there are what seems to be 100 diff ways to mod your xbox and they all just throw around terms and say just do it like you should automatically know how to do everything.
