Indeed, I currently have a 250gig in there (Thank you FS/FT 😛). XBMC can access network shares as well, however.....so Ive decided that unless I want to backup all my media onto it, getting a bigger HDD was somewhat pointless, in that I can access all my music via the network regardless. Although I suppose A) wouldn't hurt to have a backup, and B) if i ever bring it somewhere thats not in my apartment, the media will be on it.

I know you can go up to 400GB HDs with the Xbox, possibly larger.

You'd be amazed at the amount of networking options available in XBMC. It can even access your shared iTunes library over the network.

Simple or restricted network access is simple to setup for XBMC.

There is a way to softmod a 120GB+ HDD in the Xbox, should be on the xbox-hq.com forums. And yes, XBMC can access network shares via Samba. Works just fine with my NTFS formatted server.

The one I have also can access workgroup (windows file sharing) shares as well. It will list the following

Available Workgroups ---> Available computers on each workgroup ---> Shared directories on each computer

If you bump up the stream size just a bit, video and audio play seamlessly.

Haha, actually last night we did something wild. Had a movie burned onto a CD-R (which xboxs wont read). Didn't wanna wait to copy it to my hard drive, so we just put the CD in my computers Disk Drive, shared that disk drive on the network, and just accessed that shared "directory" via the xbox...played just fine 😛

I have gotten everything BUT itunes sharing to work on my network....it always says "itunes share not found" when I select that option...it'd be nice if it did work, as I like the way my Itunes music is orginized 😛 (any ideas how to fix it??)

Sold mine for $40, didn't use it since I got WMCE which outputs to HD on my TV and Dolby Digital.

Plus my Harmony remote controls my MC PC seamlessly.

Now, you do need some hardware as you have to get the exploited games saves from your PC to the Xbox. It's not expensive though, usually around $30. For XBMC you'll need the Auto Installer Deluxe Disc which you can find all over torrent sites.

As I recall, I just enabled sharing with iTunes and modified my sources.xml and point the daap address to the IP address of my desktop. Also, make sure iTunes is running or else it won't work.

Yes and yes. I have a 500-gig hard drive in my Xbox; you can format it as a single partition using XBpartition. You can't go higher than 500 gigs reliably and you can't have more than a single drive inside of an Xbox (at least, running at one time). One concern is heat & noise - the 500-gig drive puts out a lot more heat than the stock 8-gig drive and so my fan is at 40% by default. A little noisy if you are at a quiet part in the game, but not bad overall.

It can definitely access network storage, anything from a shared folder on your computer's hard drive to a dedicated NAS. It will talk to Windows via SMB (simple folder sharing). There is an app called ccxstream which will also stream multimedia and is a bit faster than folder sharing. My recommendation is either to buy a big spare internal hard drive or external USB/Firewire hard drive and set that up as a folder share, or else toss FreeNAS on an old computer and just setup some folders for Videos, Music, Photos, etc. Here's a link to FreeNAS:

FYI, there is a server app called daapd (and other variations) that will let you setup an iTunes server using the previous version's protocol. Nice if you have a spare box and want to toss your MP3s on it - it simply scans the directory then serves them up iTunes-style:

It's not that bad, given the amount of tutorials, guides, and help available on the net.

Having said that, I think the best solution is just pick one one used off the FS/FT forum. Modded Xboxes are popping up more frequently due to the switch to newer consoles, and you could probably get an Xbox with a 120GB HD, 2 controllers, and cables for $160-$170.

That's what I did back in February (mine was $200). Granted, I was only 4 years late to the Xbox party, but there's soooo much more to a modded Xbox than XBMC. XBMC is the crowning feature, IMHO, but you've got tons of emulators and ability to run games off the HD.

PS3? Xbox360? Wii? .....suckers! I've got a modded Xbox! 😉

I couldn't agree more....while I must admit, the graphics on 360 games are amazing, the modded xbox is simply amazing. Once i finish my hidef projector and hook up the xbox hidef kit to it, getting it running in 720p...it's gonna be gold! Until then, however, im stuck with a bad image (RCA to VGA, image blurry as heck due to the stretch 😛)

I just tested my modded Xbox on my brother's widescreen Optoma projector via Component using the HD-AV pack, looks great! Even emulator games look pretty dang nice...Contra on a 92" screen...mmm 🙂

I have several folders on my pc shared. firewalls are turned off and the xbox and pc are connected to the same router.

I've looked all over but can't seem to get any additional info.
