They compared computers with cars and said that the two are similar as the "enthusiast crowd" prefer inferior things - the manual gearbox and AMD processors. So I asked why is AMD inferior and they go on to tell me that (AMD) doesn't even have a 3.0GHz CPU yet and is light years behind Intel. I laughed so hard I actually snorted and (honestly) I RARELY do that.
Well, to be fair, when I started becoming a computer "enthusaist", the hot chip was a Celeron 300A. AMD was who back then? I guess if I had remained an enthusiast I would have transitioned to AMD but that never happened.

you are a N00b....
AMD was kickign butt back in the 386/486 days with the 486DX2 80 fastest 486 you could get at the time...

they have always been a force to be delt with..
they were just under the radar.

lol Celery 300A.. man how old are you...

that was like not even 10 years back lol...

its not just that I find manuals fun, I find autos utterly boring to drive. my gf recently bought a 2006 Scion tC auto. We took a 2 hr trip to AC once with it and I drove back. Although its a very nice car, I didnt enjoy the drive mostly because I was bored most of the way. half my body felt so useless

DX40 FTW! Still have that rig intact from back in the day (with a (then) fantastically fast Quantum 250MB HDD! :D)

I think I would fall asleep at the wheel if I had an auto tranny. WTF would I do in the car?

MT = constantly paying attention to things (revs, speed, etc.) = constantly engaged in the driving process = better driver = safer!

Actually I had a 386DX40 as well. Just wasn't an "enthusiast" that far back:)

386DX 40 got me through Sam and Max.

Crazy rabbit. Dipping him in the water in the "tunnel of love" and shoving his head in the fusebox to short out the ride and stop the boat never felt so good!

I wish I could still drive a manual. If I could afford to have a car for fun on top of a daily driver then I would definately have a manual in the fun car. My left knee just doesn't agree with a daily driver especially when I get stuck in stop and go 5mph traffic. Ouch.

Yup, I listen to the radio too to keep me awake when driving sometimes, but with a MT you have to be doing things, you can't let yourself doze off a bit.

Having said that, I don't agree about paying attention to revs, you should just kinda "know" when you're supposed to be changing gear.

Manual is the only way. Only fat, lazy people(americans), women and people who are going to be stuck in dense traffic for the majority of their drive use autos. No two ways about it.

My commute when I went to school, all city driving

My 2003 Honda Civic EX automatic, rated city 30 actual 29-30

My 2005 Scion TC stickshift, rated city 22 actual 27-28

No, I dont drive slow, but you can see how my automatic got worse than its rating but my manual got much better.
Bah. The tC gets absolutely horrid gas mileage for its performance. I get the same city mileage in a modded WRX with twice the hp and AWD.

I learned to drive on a manual. Every car I've ever owned has been a manual. I'll be driving manuals until my left leg stops working.

BTW, if it doesn't have a manually-operated friction clutch, then it's not a manual. Your sportshift auto does not have manual mode, it has a poser mode.

If you REALLY like to DRIVE it get rid of the wheel and use levers like a bulldozer. Now that would be a handful eh? ;)

A manual is more fun to drive.

That wears off very quickly if your not driving a sports car and having to be stuck in traffic every day.

What part of an automatic makes traffic so enjoyable?

I would assume you can be lazy as it requires no though.
