uh, a lot of people drive stick shifts because of the lower price of vehicles with manuals, not because of your reason.

Good for you :cookie:

I was answering why this forum is full of people who praise manual. I guess i should have phrased it better, so i will for your benefit.

Because they lack real accomplishments in life, and think knowing how to drive manual is a big one. Or they want to save money by not getting auto. Or they think manual is more fun. Or they think they'll save more gas. Or the car they bought was used and was only manual. Or auto's are against their religion.

Manual is just way more fun, I love my Altima with the 5 speed... just a blast.. I can't stand auto. More money to buy when you get a new car, and more to go wrong too. It's just a clear choice in my eyes.

I drive a 92' corolla with stickshift. I'd say the stick made it a lot more worthy to drive or I would've dumped the POS a long time ago.
It's fairly fun to drive it with stuck, and old corollas aren't too slow either as they are very light. It can easily keep up with even my bro's 325ci from 0-40.

At one point everyone who knows how to drive a stick didn't know how to. You've got to start somewhere right?

<--First car was a stick.

Agreed. Didn't even consider getting a slushbox when I bought my car last year. One of my criteria for the new car was it had to be a stick.

Been driving a stick since I was 16. It actually feels weird to me if I drive a car with an automatic transmission. I always want to step on the clutch pedal whenever I ride an auto.

Ain't that the truth :D
Although I had to drive an auto-tranny Volvo 240T for awhile. For something so heavy, damn can that thing move!

Same I have driving a stick since my first few months of driving. My first car that was "mine" was stick, and when I was looking for a new (to me) car recently, being manual was mandatory.

I love my 5spd, but when I'm downtown Toronto or something in rush hour, I sure wish I drove an auto...

Especially with the clutch and everything in the SRT-4... It's tiring!!

This brings up a funny discussion I had with someone a few weeks ago.

They compared computers with cars and said that the two are similar as the "enthusiast crowd" prefer inferior things - the manual gearbox and AMD processors. So I asked why is AMD inferior and they go on to tell me that (AMD) doesn't even have a 3.0GHz CPU yet and is light years behind Intel. I laughed so hard I actually snorted and (honestly) I RARELY do that.

I had a 400ci GTO with a 4spd, and loathed shifting all the time. Generally shifted from first to fourth as often as possible. That car would have been just fine with a 3spd Turbo-Hydromatic. That's the last manual I bought, and it's been decades since.

Cars have changed a lot since then bud.

MT's sucked back then

Well, to be fair, when I started becoming a computer "enthusaist", the hot chip was a Celeron 300A. AMD was who back then? I guess if I had remained an enthusiast I would have transitioned to AMD but that never happened.

In the early 90's AMD's 386 DX40 was kicking majorly! The 486DX4 120 was also very good and much cheaper than the Pentium 90 that it could match - outside of floating point obviously.

Their K5's were not so great, the K6 was good but too late and from there forward they just kept going and INTC was really embarassed coming out with the Willies.

It's been a long drawn out battle that looks like it's going to heat up again with their Conrads. ;)

Celeron 300A's were nice too. Back in 1998 when a P4 400 was what $600+ you could buy a 300A celly and o/c most of 'em to 450/466 stock and the better ones would do 504. Percentage-wise that was a crazy o/c and despite the smaller 128 KB L2 it was full speed so it worked well against the halfspeed off die cache of the SECC PII's that were MUCH more $$$.

Shame on you for mentioning five speed girl! :frown:
