I'd wager that young kids that smash pumpkins and do similar things are much more likely to key a car than the kids that respect the property of others. There are exceptions to every rule, but if you've got the gall to come to my porch and destroy my property then you're probably a more likely candidate to mess up my other property too.

What "facts" did you present? All I can find is that you and friends smashed pumpkins but didn't key cars. Well good for you, but how does that apply to the rest of the population? How can you consider a biased poll of an extremely small group of people to be accurate? That's just silly. We're both presenting opinion, but it seems that YOU are the uninformed one.
Vandalism is NOT a "trick". I even have the law on my side - if a cop sees you doing that you're going to be sitting in the back of a squad car.
When I was young I would steal the bleeder caps from car tires. This is something that kids do often, but I'm not going to say it was just a "trick" and "harmless fun". A grown person sees it for what it was - a stupid thing that shouldn't be done.
Reading this thread since my last reply is making me real mad. There is no good reason for anybody to be smashing anybody else's pumpkins. Ever. It's not good clean fun, it's vandalism and teaching young kids that it's okay to destroy other people's property every once in a while for your own 3 seconds of enjoyment. Same goes with balloon throwing. It's never justified to throw balloons at innocent bystanders out of your car, ever. Similar to pumpkin smashing, it's teaching kids that it's okay to assault (omg, I said assault!!11 teh noes!!11) people for your own enjoyment. This stuff is the baby food of a criminal career. Get em started on crime young!
