C'mon, tell us the truth, the TRUE reason for your objection is that you're afraid of needles and hate the sight of blood...right?
No, I just hate the thought of being that much closer to crack monkeys like you.

There are several reasons the US has cited when denying a person the right to marry. Syphilis, other marriages, homosexuality. To many, these reasons appear to be utterly ridiculous, but there are some out there who firmly believe that these restrictions need to be in place, and they just happen to have been making the laws at the time. The only way to reverse these restrictions is to get the laws reversed or expanded. If you're so uptight about this, get a petition started and get it to several of your state lawmakers.

Why? If you had been READING THE DAMN THREAD, you'd know that it's not required in my state.

It's okay for the state to charge me a few bucks for a license. They do it for hunters. It helps bring revenue in to offset my taxes. Other people did it for me, I'll do it for them. My objection isn't the blood test requirement. My objection is the state deciding if I can marry or not based on health that may not even come into play during some people's marriage.
Ok, let's see if I got this straight.

The state can tell you no for not throwing a couple bucks its way, and that's ok, but Holy Moses it damned well better not tell you no because it might save a life?

Ooooo K!

Under what circumstances could the state decide that you can not marry?

I don't believe that they should have any such authority at all.

well they shouldn't be allowed to stop u. but if they had a program looking for recessive disorders it would spare you suffering. u could still have kids, just with help;P

How would a blood test before marriage control syphillis? It's not like you can't have sex before marriage.

I went and got my SCHTUFF checked anyhow, what's wrong with attempting to find out if you have any NASTIES?
The stuff can be dormant ya know.
Why would anyone not want to take one before getting married?
If you have HIV and you know it and you have sex with someone you know you can go down for murder 1 right?
(as long as Law and order was correct in their legal studies a few weeks ago,,,heh!)

Some people didn't know they had it, and if they did, sometimes they were two embarased/scared to tell their would be spouse. Nothing better as a wedding present to your would be spouce as a case of syhpillis. Who says that you are your partners first?

This is just like gun control. You can only control those who are willing to be controlled. If I want to get married, I'm getting married. If you want to charge me a few bucks, tell me what problems my kids are going to have -the kids that I will raise and love no matter what challenges you want to call "defects" they might have- that's fine with me. If you're going to say "no, you can't get married because if you have sex, your kids might look funny!" I'm going to look you straight in the face and tell you "they're MY kids, it's MY life, she's MY love, and I'll have them all just as I please!"

...just before I Bob Duke you in the jaw.

Funny, you don't agree with abortion do you, since this is EXACTLY the same argument that pro-choice people use.

It's just a little blood work.. unless you have something to hide whats the harm in it? Or get married in a state/country that doesnt require it.. try niagara falls ontario,.. honeymoon capital 🙂

I had to take rubella test. And when I came for the rsults, they made this huge drama about how they had "something to telll me" and I needed to be ushered into a private room for consultation. It turned out they wanted to sell me a rubella vaccine. I told them to screw off and to not scare people like that -- I swear their behavior convinced me I had some rare blood disease or HIV or something!

Not should, could.
What would your blood test have to reveal for the state to deny you a marriage license?

Although it's contrary to every single human right in existence, if you're gay they can refuse to recognize you legally in something like 48 states.

Mississippi Marriage Requirements
Age
21 * (see below)

Cost of Marriage Certificate
$21.00

Waiting Period
3 Days

Valid For
3 Months

Identification Required
Yes

Blood Test Required
Yes

Residency Required
No

Other *
* If under age 21, a parental consent is required

Since when is a twenty year old a child that needs mommy's and daddy's permission?

This is becoming more and more rappent - classifying 19 and 20 and sometimes 21 year olds as teenagers or sometimes kids. It is mostly done in new articles, but now I see a state is using this philosophy in their marriage requirements.

I can't tell you this for a fact, but I suspect it is the result of a much larger percentage of people in that age group still living as dependants. A lot of people do not leave home until they are 22 or so these days. Just my $.02🙂
