Why just two or three diseases -and it's because of children? WTF... the state can now say whether you can have kids or not? :|

Didn't you read the damn thread? You want your wife to have a baby that is incompatible with her blood type so they both die? And yet you are anti-abortion...

Why are you so opposed to having your blood tested? Seriously? WTF is wrong with you? Are you stupid? Wait.. we know the answer to that question...

Yes, I read the thread, dumbass. Why would I ask a question, then not read the answer?

I asked another question to probe for other answers or a more complete answer. Nice cheap shot, though. If you're going to insult me, try harder next time.

It's "Chelsea" or "Chels" for short and, yes, we've been talking about it for quite some time. :)

Nice. :D So they don't actually stop you, they just give you a heads up. That's what I wanted to know.

At most, I would have just written my congressman and went through with the test. But since it's not required here anymore, I'm a happy guy.

I was once told that it's to see if there will be any sort of antibodies passed onto the child when you get pregnant. It's not really an issue any more due to medical breakthroughts, but in the past, if a child had a certain bloodtype and the mother had a different blood type, the mothers immune system would more or less try to kill the fetus.

Least that's what I heard. Not sure of validity.

If I remember correctly, it has to do with "rh factor". A minority of people are "rh-", which when the other parent is "rh+", can result in serious medical problems.

What he said. Now OB/GYNs can give the mother a shot if the rh factors differ between the mother and father making this not that big a deal. I had to go get typed when my wife was pregnant with our first child because her doctor has to know the rh factors.

Public health risk? Why would it take my getting married to see if I'm a public health risk? What happens to all the people who fsck without getting married? The kids that they crank out would be just as much a "risk" as my kids. Kind of a stupid reason. Glad it's not in effect. :)

I'd be worried about this:

Mississippi Marriage Requirements
Age
21 * (see below)

Cost of Marriage Certificate
$21.00

Waiting Period
3 Days

Valid For
3 Months

Identification Required
Yes

Blood Test Required
Yes

Residency Required
No

Other *
* If under age 21, a parental consent is required

Since when is a twenty year old a child that needs mommy's and daddy's permission?

This is becoming more and more rappent - classifying 19 and 20 and sometimes 21 year olds as teenagers or sometimes kids. It is mostly done in new articles, but now I see a state is using this philosophy in their marriage requirements.

Further yet, if the blood tests reveal incompatible blood types (

) does the state have the ability, the right, to deny your marriage, given all other things pass muster?

Aparently, Oregon doesn't anymore. But other states still do, unfortunately.

Christ you people are freaking out over this. It's a heads up system, although outdated, that was put in place to save lives. How many average people with a high school, or less education would even think that incompatible blood types could kill both child and mother?

Did you think about it?

I would assume that 40+ years ago, when this was probably put into place, pregnant women didn't go to the doctor until something was wrong, or when they were ready to give birth.

You don't "flunk" it and get denied the right to marry, it's just there to say "Hey, if you do get pregnant, be sure to tell your doctor about this".

And that there is my problem with it. It shouldn't have any right to disallow a heterosexual marriage. If it were a headsup, great. If it were a qualification process to marry and go through the loving formalities of marriage with the person you love, that's where I draw the line.

its to check blood type, rh and if you are related. But most states are stopping the practice. anyway if you are planning on getting married this will be the easyest thing you can do!

But when your wife is pregnant if the blood type are diffrent the women needs to take a shot before and after the pregnancy or it can be dangerous for mother and child.

and no the state will NOT keep you from getting married or having kids heh

Yes, all that has been said a few times over. :)

Thanks for the info, though. It would have been nice to read that all in one post instead of it trickling through.

lmao! I love it when youngins just figure out things that have been true for like 70 years and act as though ITS JUST THEM who has to observe these new found rules and regulations. Yep, this requirement was made JUST FOR YOU and tens of millions of Americans over the decades haven't had to do the same thing. haha

Its even more hilarious when they just 'discover' things which have been the reality for centuries. "WTF? What the hell is this 'withholding tax' on my pay check! How long has this been the rule? This is BS!" haha
