That used to be the way in my home province in Canada years ago. They took your blood to test for diseases like HIV.

Of course, it didn't last long.

I was once told that it's to see if there will be any sort of antibodies passed onto the child when you get pregnant. It's not really an issue any more due to medical breakthroughts, but in the past, if a child had a certain bloodtype and the mother had a different blood type, the mothers immune system would more or less try to kill the fetus.

Least that's what I heard. Not sure of validity.

It is not Bull sh!t. It is the law and its in place to protect you and society from the possibility of bearing children that may have serious disorders because of incompatibility blood match. It is for your protection. It is for society's protection.

Don't be such an ass. If this is part of your wedding plans and things you must get done, posting here about this is a sure sign your priorities are misplaced.

Good luck holding your marriage together.

If I remember correctly, it has to do with "rh factor". A minority of people are "rh-", which when the other parent is "rh+", can result in serious medical problems.

To test for personal health, diseases which could be passed on to any children the couple may produce, or warn of complications that may arise from a pregnancy.

edit: Seems like most states no longer have a requirement.

Not anymore....rh factor is rarely an issue with modern technology (me=RH-). That may have been one of the reasons in the past tough....good point.

I don't know, but I'm beginning to get mad. Now that I have a white car, the gas spills from the incompetant fscks is staining the finish. :|

According to that list Oregon no longer requires it...

I don't see what the big deal is though.

Why just two or three diseases -and it's because of children? WTF... the state can now say whether you can have kids or not? :|

Didn't you read the damn thread? You want your wife to have a baby that is incompatible with her blood type so they both die? And yet you are anti-abortion...

Why are you so opposed to having your blood tested? Seriously? WTF is wrong with you? Are you stupid? Wait.. we know the answer to that question...

They're not going to neuter you if it turns out your (potential) kids might be in danger. But it would be a nice "heads up" to people who wouldn't have known otherwise.

I think "letting potential parents know that their children could have serious health problems" is a damn good reason. If you have a problem with it, it's not that expensive to fly to Nevada and get married.

Lucky: Exactly. 100% agreed.

Tripleshot: I won't put off a marriage just because of a blood test, and if I have to take a blood test to marry the woman I love, I will. Nobody's priorities are misplaced. I'm not married yet. I will have little trouble holding the marriage together. Someone's being an ass here, but it isn't me.
