If you want to be paid for having sex, become a prostitute or get on welfare like everyone else. Putting the burden on companies for your whorish ways just isn't going to fly in America.

If I am going to be paying a woman for having sex I damn well expect for her to be having sex with me :colbert:

I know right? Hey you wanna continue the human race, lets punish you for it.

Raising children is a big responsibility. If your career cannot wait a few years until they are older and can enter school... maybe the parents should rethink this wanting to have both.

It goes back to the purpose of a business. A typical business (maybe with the exception of goodwill) does not exist to merely employ people. It exists to earn profit.

If you want a career right now and children right now.... you either start your own business or find a good company that supports this. They are out there. Making the government force businesses to do this is not a good thing.

The notion that people and businesses don't benefit from paid maternity leave is complete nonsense.

Whether you like it or not, people are going to have kids and offering assistance to those that do benefits society in general.

Businesses are part of society, as are all the bitter mysognostics who inhabit Internet forums. If you want to reap the benefits of society then you are going to have put with things that don't necessarily benefit you directly.

If a business benefits, then it will choose to have those plans which some do right now. Theres no need to mandate these plans with federal action. It will hurt the businesses that can not afford to provide those benefits. I've been a part of small start ups where if one person leaves for 3 months with full pay, the entire thing would collapse.

Saving your job for when you return is a business helping. Flat out paying someone to have a child is not a business's absolute responsibility.

Actually in Canada you get child tax benefits for having kids too

Yes, Canada is better for women and the poor, but you can't be lazy and collect, you have be actively searching for work, and this is strictly enforced by the social workers.
If you are employable, you have to turn in lists every month of the places you have applied and the social workers check them out before you get a check

Same in England, you have to show up at the unemployment office and you have to apply for every single job that you are directed to apply for. This includes those who are on unemployment.

We don't have the kind of welfare state that the US does where people can live an entire lifetime on welfare without looking for a job.

Also, if you get a job, you can't turn it down. Say what? You were an engineer? Well here's an McDonalds application form, fill it out and apply or you lose your unemployment/social benefits.

AGAIN, what nations force businesses to pay for ANY maternaty/paternaty leave?

So your hatred of our society, like most foreigners, is just jealousy?

If there is a high score table for the most sweeping statements ever made, yours has to be on it. A majority of 7-8 billion people hold the same opinion regarding America? That's amazing!

There is a need to mandate such plans with government action to ensure that everyone is covered equally.

Here in the UK, businesses can claim some of it back depending on (I believe) how big the company is.

Well I guess that the majority of 7-8 billion people thinks that women are incapable of being strong and INDEPENDENT.

I guess America just has a higher opinion of women than most of the world :colbert:

are you telling us, that womens with children don't paid taxes?

I would say it is a fair statement to say that most single women with children don't pay taxes.

Also, unless you pass a special tax that is only on women to pay for maternity leave it obviously has the effect of transferring money from men to women.

Why do you have such disdain for society?

John, it's the P&N, so attempting a reasonable discussion is usually a wasted attempt. I provided corrections to the misinformation by these ideologues, but it was lost and ignored in the excessive and suffocating FUD.

Too many repeating unsupportable BS, ignore attempts at reason, and then repeat the same crap. It's an anti-social and discussion killing cesspool.

well since I'm american you hardly get to exclude me from 'our'.
I bear no hatred for American society. Understanding how things can be improved and having actual experience in societies with 'better systems' does not mean one must hate america if one wishes for it to be improved.

I see no reason that I should be forced to monetarily support feminist ideology.

last I checked baby boys were still born to human females... that would make it a masculine issue as well.

last I checked families (not women exclusively) benefit from the maternity benefit... making it a human issue not a feminine issue.

so how is this "Feminist Ideology"
and what specifically do you mean by "Feminist Ideology"?????

Did you mean non-sequitur? If you want to use words beyond the average person's vocabulary maybe you should learn to spell them first?

what a pathetic way to avoid responding to an issue raised... pretending that it was never raised by resorting to the most pathetic and lowly grammar of nazi path of retreat from engaging.

Feminist ideology. You know the ideology that pushed that women should be working like men therefore making paid maternity leave "necessary".

Apparently the reason they benefit society is because they encourage professional women to have children.

How is that not eugenics?

Again ignorance is embarrassing you. Those programs benefit ALL MOTHERS AND ALL FAMILIES EQUALLY. There is no targeting. ALL are encouraged to have children if what you mean that having paid maternity leave = encouraging children... a link which you must prove before claiming it to be true.

also what you don't understand about eugenics apparently is that eugenics involves genetics. there are no genetic markers for "women who has job"

Feminist ideology. You know the ideology that pushed that women should be working like men therefore making paid maternity leave "necessary".

so what this all boils down to is that you have a problem with women in the workplace and you are making all kinds of excuses to push your anti-woman bigotry. Got it.

thanks for clearing that misunderstanding up

I have a disdain for feminists who expect me to pay for their ideology.

Women wanted to be independent. And now they are throwing a fit about the consequences.

No no, you have disdain for people taking your money and spending it on things you don't agree with.

You can say it's about women, and I'm sure that's another aspect to you, but at the core, you don't want to pay for what you don't agree with.

hmm, since european businesses with women who go on maternity leave are earning boatloads of money I guess your little equation falls flat on its face.

what does a business do when a woman goes on maternity leave for 8+ months? Who pays and what happens to the empty position??

I'm guessing you don't know. If you'd like to know I'd be happy to explain it to you.
