I will pay you to work. I'm not paying leave. Maybe if I were a rich corporation, I'd reconsider.
 
Yeah, it's a pretty good set of fucked up priorities. It's the American mindset however. Go read the thread asking guys how many days they took off for their kid's birth and see some examples of very fucked up priorities.

Years ago I worked for a company that had paid maternity live and extremely generous benefits for people with kids.

They gave something like 15 extra sick days per year for EACH kid, and your vacation times reflected the number of kids, something like 3 extra days of vacation per child.


It was disgusting how many parents clearly abused these policies.

So many lazy people taking random sick days, there was one guy with literally 10 kids and someone discovered he only had to work something like 4 months out of the year. He would come in a couple days a week and that's it.

Seeing people hugely abuse these policies is what makes me so against them. I honestly don't even think women should get paid maternity leave, or that the state should require private companies to 'hold' their jobs.



The result of all this is women tend to look toxic for many critical positions.

It's very risky to hire someone who goes through drastic hormone changes for 9 months before leaving for 3 months.
 
It is an entirely differnt matter than sick leave.
As a society your priority SHOULD be that mothers take care of their children for 2-3 months after birth while at least having the safety net of steady income until they're ready to get back to work.

The "fuck you all, I want results" is nice for corporate profits but I don't know how it can be any good for a society that wishes to take care of its members.
Think of it as an extension of "Women and children first". Don't like it - wither away into the uncaring abyss, in the name of short-term profits.

Have you ever worked with someone who has multiple kids? I've seen firsthand how a 3-4 year project can be ruined from a woman having a couple kids.



Plus you act like they just wake up and oops gotta pop out a chile. That's not what happens.

How about that as a society we make it a priority for parents to raise their own children and not worry about owning two volvo SUV's and a 3500 sq foot house?

I think a lot of this is the common liberal extremist mindset... That society needs to pay for each others' mistakes, that we shouldn't have any personal accountability.
 
In the UK, I am entitled to 2 weeks off work paid at a standard rate (£136.78 or 90% of your salary pro rata per week, whichever is lower). Most companies will pay your regular wage for those 2 weeks, and claim the SMP/SPP (statutory Maternity/Paternity Pay) for themselves on your behalf (ASMP/ASPP - Assisted SMP/SPP). This way the employees are not having to worry about losing money. Mothers are legally entitled 6 months off at 90% of their standard wage, a further 3 months with SMP and a further 3 months unpaid. All companies will generally pay for the year even if the last 6 months is SSP. The exception to this rule tend to be US owned companies like Amazon, Starbucks etc, they will pay you the SMP/SPP and that is it.

No its an extension of women first. Women wanted to work. Now they want other people to pay for the consequences.

So I am making sure I am understanding this correctly:

Men get 2 weeks of paternity leave.

Women get 6months+ of maternity leave at 90% pay?
 
It would be a good idea for companies to offer paid maternity leave with the right conditions but private businesses should never be forced to provide it though.

Government has no right to force businesses into this.

The man can have longer, if the mother has less maternity leave.

6 months max at 90% pay
3 months max at £136.78
3 months max at £0

The man can have up to 3 months if the mother forgoes hers at statutory pay

In this case it is simply that liberals think men should pay for women's choices.

Why should a woman* need a man to have a baby... well until the bill comes due anyway.

*I will make clear that on the off chance a man find some way to have a baby without a woman he is crazy.
 
Here in the US, we pretend to care about the unborn children (but we actually care about the appearance of sexual morality instead) until they're actually born, at which point it's fuck all y'all unless you're rich.
