Yep, I believe in the wheel of Karma, and this advice is what will keep it spinning in your favor. Create bad karma, and it will own you before all is done....

I am suprised at how many people said to call them. I would never have called them. I've actually had that happen with a very large compuer company before where I got an extra optical drive.

Newegg is huge plus if they have smart accountants then mistakes like yours are already factored into the bottom line.

Now, do you have to RMA it seeing they told you to or can you just let the RMA expire?

Well you did do the right thing bro. The reason you don't feel better about it is because you have duped into believing that HONESTY = PROFIT that is ridiculous.

So you would return it if it were a small company?

Packing errors of course do happen, I had a (minor) mistake in one of my orders, I had my entire order fine (products/invoice) but there was a second invoice in there for a complete system, I can only assume that the second order made it to the correct person, it was just lacking the invoice.

They gave him $10 to pay for shipping.

And how is that a fair reimbursement, rather than telling Newegg that they should pay for the return shipping directly out of their own shipping account? Plus--and it's just the principle--why should he have to go through the trouble of repackaging it, then having to drive/walk/whatever to the nearest UPS/FedEx/USPS? And what happens if it gets lost during the return--does he now have to pay for the missing drive (if he didn't pay extra to insure the package), since Newegg was aware that they mistakenly sent him an extra drive and was expecting its return?

UPS automatically adds $100 insurance to all shipments. You only need to by insurance if the value is over that amount.

Stay quiet. Why should you go threw the hassel for there error. Its not one hard drive that will put them out of buisness.

I agree. They screwed up your order. You should be rewarded for the mix up. Just like if you go to McDonald's and they mess your order up they give you an apple pie for free.

Newegg has been one of the best to deal w/on-line...for years. Fair and fast. Treat them as you want to be treated. It's not about $$$'s or reward.

I would've negiotated with them on the phone, shooting for something like half retail on the drive plus return shipping.

You were under no legal obligation to return the drive, and if NewEgg appended it to your order and credit card without your authorization, it would have been credit fraud.

It's really disappointing to see that you got effectively nothing out of helping NewEgg with their mistake.

Well as much as I believe he did do the right thing I would have demanded that FEDEX pick it up. He paid for his own items fair and square...he is under no obligation other then to tell them he has a drive he didn't pay for. I would simply tell them the drive is on my coffee table without a box...you want it come get it.

I love NEWEGG regardless they offer great prices and good service...that is what I expect as a consumer but it is a rare thing )-: and it is not more then I deserve for my hard earned $$$. Serious call them back tell them they can have the $10.00 back and come get the drive.

Ok so i call them, "you gave me 2 drives blah blah blah"

Bull! consider me a martyr:laugh: there you have it folks...NO i don't get to keep it, NO they don't help with shipping, cept the credit, and NO i don't get rewarded.

such is life.

Oh now way! you calling was right their $10 credit and you ship it back are all wrong. It is up to them to have it picked up from your location. I would absolutely insist they arrange a pickup at your location and convenience. You are in no way obligated to lift 1 finger to ship it back to them. Do not do their dirty work for them. You already did your part by letting them know of the error.

Tell you what I have purchased a lot of parts from newegg well into the 10s of thousands of dollars and while in general I am pretty happy with them there are a few things they do that irk the hell out of me. The fact that I have to pay return shipping on every damaged case really pisses me off since literally half of all the cases i have ordered from them arrived with damage of varying degrees. Newegg has absolutely refused to pay return shipping on any of those cases so I have basically had to live with it Sucks trying to explain to someone why their new pc has a dent or scratch in it. Simply wasn't cost effective to pay shipping twice on a case. adding in return shipping to the original shipping and you have increased the cost of the case 50% to 80% in many cases. Needless to say I only purchase cases from Newegg as a last resort now.

I agree, it was the right thing to call, but it's lame that they won't send you a shipping label and a box and then send fedex to your house. I'd call back and try to get a new rep and get them to send fedex to your house.

Personally I say call them. Life is a lot better when your cool to people.

Legally it's yours. Anything anybody sends to you in the mail is legally yours, automaticly. Anything they send to a minor is legally the minor's, even if they are unable to pay for it. (minors are not bound to legal agreements, but not immune to fraud proscecutions either).

You could call them up and say "haha you lamer you sent me a extra harddrive and I don't give a crap and I am keeping it." but that's a a-hole thing to do.

Being a descent person is a reward in itself.

Two years ago, I used to have an OM package delivered to me weekly (FAR deals where I could use $50 off $150 coupons were nice), they kept just sending me extra crap weekly. I mean, it wasn't even stuff I wanted, they'd just throw in more FAR items that they wouldn't charge me for. I'd call them and they said, "Just keep it." They did it again the next week, I told them this is the second time it's happend, the guy said it's not worth it for them to come pick up the additional items, etc. etc. He said don't bother calling in the future unless they call me.

Granted this was stuff that is probably worth no more than $20, but I ended up with about 5 keyboards I never ordered by the end of the summer.

well, i was building a media pc and ordered a 2x512mb set of ram . . . and they sent me two, so i got a total of 2GB, instead of 1GB. it was about $220 set, and i felt kinda guilty, so i called the company and told them what happened . . .

the man on the phone told me to keep it if it fit in my system or send it back for a half-credit refuund (get $110 back, plus they do shipping) . . . since it fit, i just kept the ram (and am i glad i did, this thing SCREAMS)
