Yes they do. I like the design of the cartridges too. This HP is also very quiet and doesn't take any time to prime like Epsons do.

Maybe a Xerox Docuprint. The wideformat ones with the thermal black, and injet color are phat.

I don't like the fact that newer HP ink cartridges actually do expire. We had a bunch at school that expired a year before we tried them and only about 1 in 5 had all the colors. Most were missing 1, 2, or all 3 colors. We also had some older cartridges (600 series printers) that expired in 1998 and they worked fine.

I think HP made the newer cartridges so they would die after a short amount of time so you could not refill them.

To answer your question, my next printer probably would be an HP.

Nope...It will be either another Lexmark or Canon. I used HP for years but gave up on them a few years ago when their quality started going to crap. I swithced to a Lexmark 3200 and have been very happy with it. HP have improved some but not enough. I build a lot of systems for people and most want an HP printer just because of the name and I've seen enough to know that they still lack the quality and reliability of the Lexmarks, Canons, or Epson printers. A few people have let me pick printers for them and I have to say that the printer I've been using lately, the Canon S600 is one hell of a printer. I've also used a few Lexmark Z-52's and they are nice as well. The Canon seems to be faster and have a better picture, plus the individual ink tanks seem to last quite some time and be cheaper than any of the other brands.

HP used to be the king but in the last 5-6 years they have really slipped.

I believe HP's cartridges die because the jets are so damn small now.

Anyhow, I'm torn between getting the G85 printer/canner/copier/fax, G55 Printer/scanner/copier or just a 990 printer. The G55 and G85 supposedly have as good a print quality as the 990.

I don't need a scanner, but having a copier would be nice, as well as the extra desk space.

Mwink, There has been no change in the manufacture of HP cartridges. The reason that they expire and should not be refilled is the same. There is "plastic" layer in the middle of the print which is very difficult to make stick to things. This layer is degraded by time and the ink. Therefore you cannot expect to refill with foriegn ink and get the same results. Newer cardridges, for 700 and higher printer numbers are physically bigger then the older 600 and lower number, by this I mean not only the ink resivoir but the print head itself, this tends to amplify such problems.

I do not officially speak for HP, but have been working in the print cardridge manufacture process for 5yrs.

If I buy a laser printer it will be a HP, if I buy an inkjet though, it will be a canon like always.

I'm currently using a HP DeskJet 520 (old, eh ;) ). I've been using this printer for over 5 years and it still works fine. My next printer will probably be an HP.

canon's quality sux... well, dunno about recent ones.. but if they haven't GREATLY improved over the last 1.5yrs.. then forget it.

Epson has an ink/loud issue, but i want their borderless photo printer. Well, i want to see it in action first.. but it sure would be nice.

General all around, my HP 832 kicks ass and is quiet... crisp text, and fine printing on photo paper...

Best text quality: our good ol' HP4P LaserJet :D

HP sucks, dad had 2, a 600 series and a 800 series both crapped out just after the warrent was up, there old lasers were good there new ones are WAY overpriced, look at the 1100, its got 2 MB or ram not upgradeable, its 600DPI and its like $600(Canadian). I just bought a new laser and it was a samsung 4600, its 1200DPI, has a regual 72pin slot for ram expansion(I put 32MB in there, i will be able to print anyhting now) and it only cost me $300(canadian). So which would you get :)

Yes, definitly - clear, sharp text, decent pictures. Epson is too loud, too slow, and wastes a crap load of ink. The lexmark I have had experience with had smeary ink, even months after printing.

I have had one HP ink cart. die (well, it "expired" before I ever used it). Other than that I've never had a problem with clogging or any other mech. failure in 3 years with a 722c...

Maybe. Hp doesn't make any dye-sub printers, at least none that I would buy. But HP970 is close to dye-sub at a fraction of the price and I can use whatever paper I want. The only real drawback is the relatively short life of inkjet prints.

I have a 4 year old HP 672, it runs okay, the only problem is the ink makes little erroneous lines in text. I've been told you can take the cartridge out and clean the mechanism in the printer with a coffee filter soaked in alcohol. I'm going to try that one of these days, I just don't print anything important so I haven't bothered.

What about the Canon S800 for a mid-range printer for all around use (text & photo)? Is good or is suck?
