Nobody said that. Another illiterate, I guess...

Name calling. Nice. Remember the part where you posted a picture of a CHP vehicle with the words "The people who need to go fast?"

...In performance applications...

Yes, performance applications. Happens all the time on your daily commute, eh?

That's why I've got a Honda to commute in, with little 17" wheels, and performance cars for fun, with 18" wheels. But like I said, larger wheels do greatly improve control on emergency swerve situations.

If you live in a place with bad weather, you need winter wheels and tires. If you live in a place with bad roads, use a decent size sidewall. Where I live, there aren't any potholes or imperfect roads. I've got one car on 17"s, one on 18"s and a truck on 18"s. I've never damaged any of them!

I've noticed the people who baby their vehicles the most over curbs and speed bumps, are driving heavy duty trucks! Coincidence?

If you want to drive a land yacht with 15" donuts, be my guest. You can drive over curbs, I'm happy for you.

The highway patrol vehicles, which are allowed and required to travel at high speed, do so without thin sidewalls. It's all about form, and NOTHING to do with function, so don't even drag that up again. Nobody on this board needs more "performance" than a lowly cop cruiser, unless they're on a track.

I need more performance than a police car. Every day. And I can utilize that performance without breaking the law. And it makes me a safer driver. And there are a lot of people here who feel the same way.

But when all those 5 gallon water containers fall off the water truck, and you have to swerve, your tires are going to FOLD.

I'll, I'll be watching for that. In the 30 years I've been driving, it hasn't happened yet. Not the water off a truck, or tires rolling under. That even includes a few years of bias ply tires! BTW, I lost my licence twice due to speding tickets, so it's not like these things were babied at all.

I've had a ladder fly off a truck at me. I had 6 5 gallon buckets of hardened cement roll out of a truck at me. I had a radial off a semi-tractor trailer come off the truck, bounce into opposing traffic and come at me. All this on the highway at >70mph speeds. I'm alive. I've had tires roll over before, and it sucks. You lose control and mess up your sidewalls.

I've seen it happen, and I've felt it happen. When the sidewall rolls, you are screwed.

Yeah, I'll be watching for that, too!

None of us have any problem with you having 15" wheels on your land yacht, Ornery. Why do you have a problem with our 18" wheels? Do you know how to live our lives better than us?

Exactly. He's not telling other people to spend their money on food and tuition.

performance/looks...what would you choose?

My car came stock with 17's... they're staying. Performance is decent with the stock Dunlop SP9000's...

Well, I DO roll on 17's. The GTO come with that size stock. 16's on the Max and 15's on the p-car. :(

Yeah, because that's why cars like an M3 come with 15" wheels.

OHHH, triple owned.........NOT.

The weight increase at the perimeter of the tire/wheel assembly causes an astronomical increase to the rolling resistance of a car. Your car will require significantly earlier braking and more braking going into corners. It will also require much greater power to bring the car back up to speed.

In around the town driving it might not be noticed, but my post was aimed at performance enthusiasts. If you're will to give up a significant amount of performance to be bling'n, well then go for it.

Yeah, she's barely roadworthy. Don't know how cops can get by at all!

they don't get by. that's why the CHP had to resort to using Camaros on highways that don't always go in straight lines. ;)

that said, i agree that people who do stupid sh!t to their cars and then have to drive them even slower than ever aren't exactly the brightest bulbs in the pack.

Again, there are light weight big wheels that give performance gains. That's why the M3 and other high performance cars have big wheels.

Both my cars (IS300, tC) come w/ 17" stock, 18" optional. I'm gonna get 18s, coilovers, lower 2" on the tC.

what are you going to do with all your money saved up?
if you are saving up to spend it later, why not spend it now? and enjoy life.

Umm.. how exactly does putting larger rims on your vehicle help you "enjoy life?"

since I am out of touch with these things now that I am 35, how much would it cost to roll on some 18's today?

what would rims, tires, installation, etc run??? I am guessing about $3 grand or so if they arent stolen...am I close???
