Would you rather have a Tesla Model S or a Porsche 911?

911 hands down

A sports car that's silent is just wrong.

If I wanted a Tesla I'd just go for an Elise and pocket the other half and it's more entertaining.

I saw a Tesla S in Houston last weekend. It looks amazing, basically like a giant Aston Martin

But being a normal person and not a rich guy with multiple vehicles who doesn't drive on the highway, I would buy the 911

911, then sell it. I mean really it's a weird comparison. If I had to live with either one, the Tesla because the 911 is worthless with two seats.
Also, someone asked if I'd driven a fixed gear EV- nope. Not really had any interest in doing so. Isn't the Leaf the only other one out there? (or is that CVT? I forget.)
As far as I know basically all the EVs have a single gear. BMW E-active does. Not sure on Volt since the ICE can assist at times so it may have more going on.

It's not a shortcoming of an EV to have a single gear. The nature of the motor is such that it doesn't need additional gears, though you can tell the top speed of EVs is limited by this fact, but still well above legal highway speeds.

Tesla dealers are limited to certain states and areas, so the majority of the country doesn't realistically have access to one. I've never in my life seen a Tesla of any kind.

I know the theory behind fixed gear is okay; I just don't think it would be fun to drive a car with nothing but the whine of an electrical motor whose noise output is inexorably linked to its speed. Yeah, you might be able to turn fast laps with it, but the lack of both gear changes and variations in engine feedback would dull the experience for me. And frankly (this is just guessing), it seems like it would be easier to kill yourself in it. There is already a very disconnected feel with hybrids; I just can't imagine what it would be like to heighten that and then try to go around corners fast.

I'd get the Tesla if I didn't care about performance or needing a new car every so often. The porsche is great but they keep evolving it that I think each specific owner has their specific model they hold near and dear. I've always been a Cayman guy so I'd just get a Cayman S from 2008-2012 with PDK and various options to make it almost 80-90 grand lol

I retract my decision. I don't really need a 911 when I already have a car that wants to kill me.

Assuming I keep my current vehicle too, I'll take the Tesla, assuming it's free 😉
