Would you protest if a section 8 apartment was being built in your neighborhood?

Either in or right next to your neighborhood. Would you try to stop it? Or would you welcome it?

Just wondering how most would react to something like this.
 
Why would you welcome a bunch of poor people moving into your neighborhood?

There was a Section 8 development half a mile from my Mom's house. They just bulldozed the entire thing. Good riddance.
 
First off, I wouldn't live anywhere an apartment complex of any kind would be put next to me. Secondly, people are free to do what they want with their property, and I'm free to accept it, or leave. I'd leave.
 
I don't believe there is anything you can do. They built one near my last house and the neighborhood just went to shit. The neighborhood directly behind it became awful and has such a bad rep that they can't give the houses away. I just sold that house and didn't even consider buying my next house in this town.

Put your house up for sale tomorrow. I'm not joking.

I took a 20,000 dollar loss and still feel fortunate to have sold it. If OP is smart he'd put his house up tomorrow and I'm serious as a heart attack. Soon as that place is built take 15-20% of your house value and flush it down the toilet.
 
They aren't building one near me. I was just wondering since another thread someone commented on section 8 being built near him and ruined the area.

I like to think I would welcome them, but I fear deep down I would wouldn't.

The thing about section 8 housing is that the people have not earned it. They do not know how to appreciate what they have. So they will trash the place.
 
Given that I live in a rural area, sure. It'd be funnier than shit. By neighborhood, I'm hoping not right next door. Then again, next door is a hell of a ways up the road.

Are there rural types of people in section 8 housing? Or are they city folks who not only are largely ignorant when living in a city would be even more ignorant living in the country. Surrrre, they could have a party at night. But you can damn well be certain that the morning after they did, I'd be out with the tractor at 6am, working away with the loudest equipment I own. I wouldn't suffer from them throwing trash around - I would politely inform them, "if you intentionally litter my property with trash, I will dump an entire bucketload (tractor bucket) of fresh shit right in front of your door."
 
I would be mad as hell. I moved out of downtown to get away from the ghetto, dont fucking bring it out to me in the suburbs.

Theres a reason people arent standing in line to move into ghettos.....
 
Section 8 is just block away from me. In Cambridge, Section 8 is scattered through-out the city. Million dollar homes right next to Section 8 housing. SF housing prices were up over 20% last year. Everyone gets along and works better than just segregating housing like in other cities/towns.

I have to admit i would laugh if they did.

living where i do it takes some planning during the winter (or hell any time of the year) you can't walk to 7-11 and get milk if you need it. its a 20 minute drive to any store and there is no public transportation. In the winter its not uncommon to get snowed in for a week. If you are going into town you ask the neighbor if they need something. they do the same for us.

Also power goes out, cable goes out etc.
 
YES,we had 1 in my neighborhood (it was a house that was converted into apartments)when crime increased we got together and signed a petition and got the place condemned.end of problem and end of crime increase
