Section 8 housing has been a disease on our local communities here in the East Contra Costa County (SF Bay Area). The city of Antioch is a prime example. Section 8 housing was huge in Antioch and now is suffering the consequences. Crime is way up, neighborhoods are now battle zones and the local schools are a joke.

The people that respect this program are far outnumbered by the people who take the handout and shit all over it.

I might of been the guy the OP was talking about. Section 8 near you sucks if you actually pay and live like a responsible person. We sold our house and are renting another house in a nice area until we figure out where we want to stay for the next 10 years.

I would describe it but lots of posts in here are spot on. I'll refrain speaking about the specific race demographics, but when one race goes from 20% of the school population to over 50% in less than two years, something is up. The subdivison went from never hearing a siren to it being a regular thing every night. Thugs walking around all hours of the night...terrible.

I will make SURE our next house is in an area that has almost no chance of getting the worthless shipped in and ruining everything for us who work our tails off to have the things we want.

Myself and my girlfriend (good jobs, no dependents) pay quite a price premium to live where we do. We could easily lead a more lavish lifestyle if we moved to a lower-cost area...but I think it is worth every penny.

School district is a HUGE deal if we ever do pop out a little one, as well.

I never understood that, unless you live downtown in a mass transit friendly city (NYC, Chicago, Boston) I've never understood how they get away with it. Developers should be required to plan at least 1.5 spaces per unit.

zoning ordinances are behind the times. my local one says 1 spot per 2 bedrooms. they require x amount of bike rack spots / parking spot now tho
