Hillbilly rock actually is probably the most broadly appealing type of music to an American audience. Now that its been mentioned, Kid Rock is about perfect.
 
I like BEP's music, for the most part, but the audio was horrendous. You would think the 200 sound checks they did before the game even started would've fixed those issues. I thought the attire looked great, but that was about it.

Fergie cut in & out a lot & I only heard Usher, maybe twice.
 
The next Superbowl halftime better feature nothing but Tom Waits at his piano, a pack of Marlboros and a glass of Jim Bean or I'm boycotting Football FOREVER!!

Not to mention they had an entire horn section. Did you hear it? Neither did I...and horns are LOUD.

As far as the halftime show, yes, it sucked. It looked neat, but the musicians (sans Slash) were horrible. It was my first real exposure the the Black Eyed Peas. Bleh.
 
the show was 100% pure garbage, absolutely 0% musical talent. fergie needs to put a cork in it and take her clothes off already...
 
I learned a good 20 years ago to change the channel or mute the TV during the Super Bowl half-time show.

I figured there would be extra suckage this year when they said "Black Eye Peas" and "most anticipated half-time in years." Of course I've watched it today for the lulz and have to ask myself WTF? What grown ass man gets in front of an audience wearing whatever the fuck they were wearing, and talk (that sure as fuck isn't singing) into a microphone that's so post-processed it doesn't even sound human. Oh yeah, I guess one that gets paid boatloads of money to do just that - hooray for American "culture." D: I use to refer to garbage like this as the "new age disco," but I'm beginning to think it's a few flights of stairs down below even that.

And Fergi, am I the only one that think she's scary looking? I mean it looks like she has a nice body, but her face is downright scary IMO, and the screeching.. oh man the screeching.
 
Nearly 200 posts here...I am not going to read them all but I couldn't find one person who was at the Super Bowl to give it a decent review.

I WAS THERE.

Now, I haven't gone back and watched the TV broadcast yet. What I can tell you is that it was a very good "show" from a live production sense. I was on the goal line upper level first row watch the backs of the performers on stage.

To start, the sound inside was some of the best I have heard. The stadium is NOT known for good fidelity either. The lights, pyrotechnics, and LED costumes were REALLY cool live.

Musically, I am a rock-n-roll guy like everyone else, and I thought overall the show was decent and done well. The crowd and everyone around us loved it. Sorry if what you guys saw on TV wasn't the coolness that I saw, but it was really not "terrible".

I'm glad it sounded good in person but the point isn't to put on a good show for the attendees, that is just a bonus for you. The point is to put on a good show for the 100 million or so viewers they want to keep tuned in. It's all about advertising.
 
I'm sick of the pop garbage as well. Ozzy's popular enough for most to enjoy the show and IMO he still rocks pretty hard for an old guy. Dave Grohl as mentioned is awesome at everything, so why not throw him in there too. Hell, Slash was a great choice just poorly executed. Even Fergie could show up (just her) and throw some proper rock around.

Here's how I imagine it: Start pitch black... see-through drum-set filled with lights starts to glow. Grohl takes a seat here and starts some simple drum fills. It's just him being awesome for the first 10-15 seconds. Then you hear a guitar start as the lights below Slash's feet show that he was next to the drums the whole time. It's Grohl and Slash for a little while. Then you hear Ozzy's cackle as he enters the stage, and they start with their first song... a popular Ozzy song. It doesn't matter which. Near the end of that song you fade and start the song from Slash's album featuring Fergie. She gets on stage and actually uses her voice to its potential. If you haven't heard the songs it's actually damn good. Finish up with Grohl leaving the drums and grab a guitar next to Slash to finish up with a Foo Fighters song where he, Ozzy, and Fergie are all sharing the vocals.

That show was hilarious. Although, I was not surprised at how crappy it was. Dancers with boxes on their heads? lol.
